On the afternoon of December 11th, the Vietnam U22 team faced Malaysia in the final match of Group B in the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games. Given the importance of the match, coach Kim Sang Sik's players delivered an outstanding performance, determined to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Throughout the 90 minutes of the match, the "Golden Star Warriors" dominated and completely took control. In contrast, the U22 Malaysia team showed weak resistance. Therefore, they had great difficulty finding the back of goalkeeper Trung Kien's net.
Coach Kim Sang Sik's team seemed to give their opponents no chance to control the ball or create any dangerous situations. U22 Vietnam ultimately won 2-0, securing their place in the semi-finals of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games.
Witnessing the lackluster performance of the Malaysian U22 players, the local press felt disheartened and disappointed. Major Malaysian newspapers took turns criticizing coach Nafuzi Zain's team.
The New Straits Times expressed disappointment, stating: "The hopes of the Malaysian U22 team reaching the semi-finals at the 33rd SEA Games have almost vanished after their defeat against Vietnam U22." This long-standing Malaysian newspaper strongly criticized the team's forgettable performance.
Meanwhile, the Sinar Harian newspaper used even harsher language, such as the headline "Vietnam successfully tames tiger cubs."
In terms of content, Malaysian media acknowledged that the Vietnamese U22 team fully deserved this overwhelming victory. At the same time, Malaysian media still harbored hopes of reaching the SEA Games semi-finals, anticipating the results of the match between Indonesia and Myanmar U22.
The match between the Indonesian U22 team and the Myanmar players will take place on the evening of December 12th. The final ticket to the semi-finals of the SEA Games 33 will be decided by the result of this match.
