On May 23, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Ms. Huynh Thi Phuong Duyen, Deputy Director of Lam Dong Department of Health , confirmed that the information "Lam Dong lacks medicine" is incorrect.

"Up to now, Lam Dong has basically ensured the supply of medicine for people to receive inpatient and outpatient treatment. For example, Lam Dong General Hospital has 900 medicine items in stock with a value of over 18.2 billion VND, and VTYT currently has 844 items in stock, worth over 10.4 billion VND. Meanwhile, in February 2024, there were 6 winning bid packages for consumable materials, including 753 items with a value of over 106 billion VND, with a contract implementation period of 12 months," said Ms. Duyen.

Also according to Ms. Duyen, on May 17, 2024, Lam Dong Department of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 1393/SYT-NVD reporting to the Department of Health Insurance ( Ministry of Health ) on the shortage of drugs, medical supplies, medical equipment (TBYT) and the situation of patients having to buy medicine themselves (according to Official Dispatch No. 2360/BYT-BH dated May 7, 2024 of the Department of Health Insurance).

The purpose of the above document is to provide information to the Ministry of Health as a basis for proposing and developing a "Circular regulating the direct payment of medicine, medical equipment and supplies for people with Health Insurance Cards (HI) when going to see a doctor or receiving treatment" that is appropriate and feasible, in order to benefit more patients with HI. However, perhaps due to misunderstanding, some media units reported that "Lam Dong lacks medicine...", which is not true to reality.

Lam Dong Department of Health confirmed that the locality currently has no shortage of medicine.

Ms. Duyen also admitted that there were times when some medical facilities lacked some medicines and medical supplies for patients because they could not select the winning bidder according to regulations. However, these medicines can be replaced with other medicines with the same treatment effect that are winning bids and available at the unit.

In addition, medical facilities have made purchases according to Clause 4, Article 23 of the Law on Bidding to ensure medicines for emergency, medical examination and treatment.

Regarding whether Lam Dong's health sector is facing any difficulties or problems when bidding for drugs at present, Ms. Duyen said: "On May 17, 2024, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 07/2024/TT-BYT regulating drug bidding. Thus, there is now sufficient legal basis to implement bidding for the procurement of drugs and equipment for the health sector."
