Goalkeeper Dinh Trieu has back pain, Xuan Hoang urgently joins Vietnam national team

Goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu did not participate in the second training session of the Vietnamese team due to a back injury, goalkeeper Trinh Xuan Hoang (Thanh Hoa Club) was urgently called up to the Vietnamese team.

On the afternoon of March 13, the Vietnamese team had their second training session in Binh Duong to prepare for the friendly match with the Cambodian team on March 19. This time, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team practiced at Binh Duong Stadium.

The team is missing two players: central defender Bui Hoang Viet Anh and goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu . If Viet Anh has a serious knee injury and is sent back, Dinh Trieu needs to be monitored.

The coaching staff of the Vietnam national team plans to take the goalkeeper of Hai Phong Club for a computed tomography (MRI) scan tomorrow (March 14) to find out the cause. Dinh Trieu had back pain after the first training session.

In the absence of Dinh Trieu, today's training session only had two young goalkeepers, Tran Trung Kien (Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club) and Nguyen Van Viet (Song Lam Nghe An) practicing with the Korean goalkeeper coach.

Therefore, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) decided to urgently call up goalkeeper Trinh Xuan Hoang, who is on the payroll of Thanh Hoa Club in V-League 2024 - 2025.

Xuan Hoang was born in 2000 and grew up at Thanh Hoa Club. In the 2024 - 2025 season, coach Velizar Popov let Xuan Hoang start 14 V-League matches and 5 matches in the Asian Club Cup.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper will be called up to the national team for the second time by coach Kim Sang Sik after the training session for the friendly tournament in August 2024 in Hanoi. Xuan Hoang will be the backup option.

It is expected that tomorrow, Xuan Hoang will be in Binh Duong to join the Vietnam team. Meanwhile, information about Dinh Trieu's injury will also be updated by VFF.

Previously, goalkeeper Nguyen Filip had withdrawn from this training session because he had to return to the Czech Republic because of a serious illness of a relative. Candidate Dang Van Lam was also not called up, which was also a surprise.

The Vietnamese team will play a friendly match with the Cambodian team on March 19 and compete in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying round, Group F, with the Lao team on March 25 at Binh Duong Stadium.
