Attending the meeting were representatives of the following units: Department of European - American Markets, Department of Energy Saving and Sustainable Development, Electricity Regulatory Authority, and National Electricity System and Market Operation Company.
At the meeting, a representative of Standard Chartered Bank presented his interest in participating in and financing key energy projects in Vietnam, especially those within the JETP framework. The bank expressed its commitment to accompanying the Vietnamese Government in the energy transition process, achieving the goal of net zero emissions.
Responding to the concerns of banks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long emphasized the importance of capital sources and consulting experience from banks to successfully implement the JETP program. The Deputy Minister also shared the current progress of JETP implementation, including the establishment of sub-working groups on energy and project proposals. The Deputy Minister suggested that Standard Chartered participate and directly exchange with members of the sub-working groups to discuss and research project funding. Responding to the concerns of banks about obstacles in some projects, the Deputy Minister said that in the coming time, with the revised Electricity Law, projects will be cleared and developed faster.
At the end of the working session, the representative of Standard Chartered Bank reaffirmed its commitment to accompany and support Vietnam within the framework of JETP as well as other energy projects outside of JETP, and to actively and closely coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the coming time.
