Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife arrive in Dubai to attend COP28 and bilateral activities in the UAE.

During his working program in the UAE, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to attend and speak at important conferences, forums, and discussion sessions within the framework of COP28; and have bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations. Along with that, the Prime Minister will have bilateral activities with the UAE.

After successfully concluding his official visit to Turkey, on the evening of November 30 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife Le Thi Bich Tran and the Vietnamese delegation arrived at Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai city to begin a working trip to attend the World Climate Action Summit within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), combined with bilateral activities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from November 30 to December 3, at the invitation of the UAE Government.

Welcoming Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife and the Vietnamese delegation at the airport were representatives of the COP28 Organizing Committee; representatives of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the liaison officer of the UAE Prime Minister; Vietnamese Ambassador to the UAE Nguyen Manh Tuan, officials and staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in the UAE.

In an interview with TG&VN before the Prime Minister's business trip, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UAE Nguyen Manh Tuan said: "The participation of Vietnamese senior leaders in COP28 is of great significance, conveying many important messages of our Party and State to international friends.

First, we reaffirm our Party's policy on foreign affairs, especially on climate change. Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the international community. Vietnam is ready to cooperate with UN members in responding to global challenges, including climate change;

Second, affirming Vietnam's strong support for the UAE, the host country of COP28, a potential new partner in this field."

"At COP28 this year, Vietnam will have an exhibition booth to introduce our country's climate change response efforts. Within the framework of the Conference, there will also be: the launching ceremony of Vietnam's Just Energy Transition Plan (JETP), activities to introduce Vietnam's mitigation, adaptation and green growth efforts in recent times.

Vietnam hopes that at COP28, countries will announce plans to implement NDCs at higher levels, thereby contributing to the global common effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance adaptation and resilience to climate change," said Ambassador Nguyen Manh Tuan.

With the UAE, after 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1993-2023), the bilateral cooperation relationship is developing well; both sides wish to strengthen cooperation in all fields. Recently, the two sides have regularly exchanged delegations at all levels; and have regularly supported each other at international forums and organizations.

The UAE is Vietnam’s leading trade and investment partner in the Middle East, with turnover in recent years always reaching approximately 5 billion USD. The UAE is one of the major investors in Vietnam, with 38 projects. Vietnam currently has about 4,500 workers working in the UAE.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip to attend COP28 and conduct a number of bilateral activities in the UAE is of great significance, affirming Vietnam's consistent policy on green growth and climate change response; and contributing to strengthening political trust and improving the effectiveness of cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE.
