Farmers building new rural areas
Farmers in Dong Nai province are increasingly playing a more effective role as the main actors and centers in the development of agriculture, rural economy , new rural construction, and civilized urban areas. This role is clearly demonstrated through the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty. Specifically, every year, farmers' associations at all levels in the province mobilize an average of over 120,000 households to register for the emulation movement, and over 61,000 households achieve the title of excellent farmers in production and business at various levels, exceeding the targets set by the Central Government.
In addition to supporting farmers in production activities, farmers' associations at all levels also accompany farmers in promoting agricultural products and connecting them with consumption channels. Recently, thousands of farmers in the province have been given the opportunity to participate in training courses on skills for listing products on e-commerce platforms and livestreaming sales. Thousands of cooperatives and farming households have been supported in creating accounts on e-commerce platforms; hundreds of agricultural products have been updated on e-commerce platforms inside and outside the province.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Quyet, Head of the Farmers' Association in Hamlet 8B, Loc Thanh Commune, said: The Farmers' Association is working alongside the S'tieng ethnic minority to develop a specialized rice cultivation area of approximately 300 hectares, using organic farming methods. Locally, there is a rice milling facility that collaborates with and purchases rice from the ethnic minority. In recent times, the Loc Thanh Commune Farmers' Association has also facilitated the participation of the local area's key agricultural products in trade promotion programs, contributing to a more sustainable market for agricultural products. As a result, the rice produced by the ethnic minority is not only supplied locally but also has expanded its market to Dong Nai Province and Ho Chi Minh City.
Thanks to economic development, farmers have the means to contribute to the construction of new rural areas. Mr. Le Cong Huynh, a farmer in Xuan Phu commune, said: "Many years ago, the roads leading to the production areas in the locality were small dirt roads. During the rainy season, the roads were muddy, students had to wade through mud to get to school, and transporting agricultural products and supplies for production was also very difficult. Therefore, when the New Rural Area Construction Movement was implemented, local farmers actively responded by donating land and contributing money to build roads. As a result, the road system to the fields and gardens has been concreted, and the irrigation system has been invested in, so people have confidently switched to different crops. To date, this area grows specialty fruit trees. Farmers in the commune are cooperating to develop garden tourism models, creating additional added value for their orchards."
During the period 2023-2025, farmers in the province contributed over 94 billion VND, more than 25,700 working days, and donated nearly 509,000 square meters of land for rural road construction. Farmers also actively participated in building cultural villages, hamlets, and neighborhoods; effectively implemented socio-economic development projects in ethnic minority areas, gradually improving the quality of life for farmers. They are also the main force in implementing the "bright, green, clean, and beautiful" rural movement, participating in environmental protection, "environmentally friendly trash cans," "say no to nylon bags and plastic waste," and the "Green Saturday, Green Sunday" model, which has been replicated in each commune and hamlet. To date, the entire province has 112 self-governing residential areas for environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
Building a new generation of farmers
At the 2025 Conference of the Prime Minister's Dialogue with Farmers, Central Committee member and Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association, Luong Quoc Doan, stated: In the context of implementing the policy of streamlining the apparatus, consolidating ministries and agencies, and merging administrative units according to the two-tiered local government model, ministries and agencies have issued and advised on the issuance of mechanisms and policies for green transformation, digital transformation, attracting investment in agriculture and rural areas, and building new rural areas...
At the 2025 Conference of the Prime Minister on Dialogue with Farmers, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the need to focus on training, educating, and improving the knowledge of farmers. All levels and sectors should implement the "three accompanying principles" to support farmers in applying science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Specifically, these include supporting farmers by equipping them with knowledge and transferring technology; supporting them in building mechanisms and policies to support and expand employment and livelihoods; and supporting them in connecting with markets, selling products, and building agricultural product brands.
The theme of the 2025 Farmers' Dialogue is "The Application of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation," further affirming the role of farmers in international integration. This includes focusing on implementing solutions to support farmers in promoting the application of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in high-quality agricultural production, ensuring export standards and expanding markets. The Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association will focus on building and effectively implementing a strategy for developing professional farmers - central cooperatives - green agriculture - livable rural areas, placing emphasis on green rural livelihoods - digital agriculture - value chains.
Also at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed: To achieve the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045, Vietnam must rely on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. A crucial aspect of this is the development of agriculture, the farming class, and rural development in the new era. Farmers must be the center, the subject, the target, the resource, and the driving force for development in the strong shift towards a commodity-based production mindset; in promoting the restructuring of production towards green, organic, circular, low-emission agriculture that protects the ecological environment; applying high technology and comprehensive digital transformation; and maximizing the potential and advantages of each region and locality.
