Over 200 delegates representing a number of central ministries and branches, overseas Vietnamese, leaders of the Association of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Abroad... attended the conference.

In her opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang stated: Project 1797 has been implemented strongly, comprehensively and effectively, not only promoting production and export but also contributing to conveying the image, culture and identity of the nation to international friends, making an important contribution to the overall achievements in socio-economic development of the country. It can be said that the 5 years of implementing Project 1797 is also a time when our country has faced unprecedented challenges, from the COVID-19 pandemic, the combined impact of armed conflicts, supply chain disruptions and instabilities in energy and food security. However, up to now, Vietnam continues to be a bright spot in terms of growth and socio-economic development in the region and the world.

The conference assessed: The project "Mobilizing Vietnamese people abroad to participate in introducing, consuming products and developing distribution channels for Vietnamese goods abroad", for the period 2019-2024, is one of the important policies of our Party and State to contribute to promoting the country's economic and trade development through goods export activities, while affirming many brands and product quality of Vietnam, demonstrating the image and "soft" value of Vietnam in the international arena. If 2019 was the first year of implementing project 1797, Vietnam's total export turnover reached over 516 billion USD, then by the end of 2024, Vietnam's total import-export turnover will reach over 786 billion USD. Project 1797 has contributed to making Vietnamese goods increasingly popular in international markets.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese ( Ministry of Foreign Affairs ) emphasized: With the connection of overseas Vietnamese, Vietnamese products are not only spread through the distribution channels of overseas Vietnamese but also gradually appear and penetrate deeply into the shelves of supermarket systems, local distribution chains and large trading floors in the host country. These efforts contribute to increasing export turnover, diversifying markets, reducing dependence on a number of traditional partners; creating more jobs, promoting domestic production, contributing to the national GDP growth target.

Delegates comprehensively assessed the results achieved and drew lessons learned during the implementation process; proposed solutions to increase the mobilization of overseas Vietnamese to participate in introducing and consuming products, developing distribution channels for Vietnamese goods abroad in the period of 2025 - 2029, directly contributing to export growth.

Many delegates said that it is necessary to create more opportunities to connect localities, business communities, domestic industry associations with overseas Vietnamese businesses, together seeking new directions and potential cooperation opportunities in the new era, the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Hue, Chairman of the Association of Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs, analyzed: Continuing to promote the effectiveness of Project 1797 in the coming time still has some limitations, such as financial resources and support mechanisms are not guaranteed, coordination between related parties is not effective, lack of market data, connection with reliable partners, product quality and competitiveness in each product are not uniform... Therefore, the Government needs to establish a Fund to support overseas Vietnamese enterprises, build a global trade information portal to form a global Vietnamese goods alliance; expand the role of diplomatic representative agencies. The Government also needs to have specific policies for the young generation of overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs...

Chairman of the Thai-Vietnamese Business Association Ho Van Lam said that Vietnam needs to focus on promoting bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations with potential markets to remove technical barriers and protectionist policies, thereby boosting the official export of Vietnamese goods to the Thai market as well as other countries. In addition, the authorities need to step up promotion and trade promotion in the provinces where overseas Vietnamese live, so that they and local people know about Vietnamese goods, thereby increasing demand for product consumption. In addition, it is necessary to introduce large, reputable export enterprises in key products for overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese people abroad to learn about and cooperate with.
