Swiss authorities are investigating a cyber attack on technology company Xplain, which specializes in technology solutions for homeland security issues and whose clients include federal and regional government agencies.
The cyber attack affected security forces, the military and the Federal Police Office.
Xplain CEO Andreas Loewinger said the company was “a victim of an attack by a group of malware called PLAY. They stole some data, forcing us to analyze the situation before offering further security measures to our customers.”
The company, which has offices in both Spain and Germany, reported the incident to the Berne regional police and asked the National Cyber Security Center to assist and conduct an investigation.
“We have not contacted PLAY and we will not respond to any ransom demands,” Mr. Loewinge affirmed.
Similar to many other countries, cyber attacks targeting businesses, government agencies and universities have been on the rise in Switzerland recently. Recently, two major media companies, CH Media and NZZ, became victims of the PLAY group.
