Storm No. 13, along with unusual high tides on November 6, caused nearly a hundred houses in Tinh Khe commune to lose their roofs and collapse. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, An Ky village, recounted: Hearing the forecast that Storm No. 13 would be a strong storm that would directly affect Quang Ngai, she left her home on the afternoon of November 6 to take shelter at a relative's house.
“In the evening, I heard my neighbor call to say that the high tide had destroyed my house, which shocked me. When I got home, the house was gone. Now I am staying with relatives, and the rebuilding of the house will have to be done gradually,” said Ms. Hoa.
Not far from Ms. Hoa's house, Ms. Pham Thi Tho's house was also severely damaged. Ms. Tho said: this was the first time she saw such a high tide. Everyone was surprised when the high waves brought a lot of garbage and mud into the residential area. Water flooded into the house, damaging many electronic devices such as washing machines, refrigerators, etc. When she saw the big waves, she ran away and fell and broke her arm.

On the morning of November 7, hundreds of officers and soldiers of the Commune Police, Sa Ky Port Border Guard Station, youth union members,... helped people clean up and dismantle houses destroyed by the storm, re-roof houses with blown-off roofs, and trim fallen trees.
Mr. Nguyen Van Long, a member of Tinh Khe commune's Youth Union, said: Under the direction of the local government, with the spirit of volunteerism, we, the Youth Union members, went to the villages that suffered heavy damage due to storms and high tides to help people overcome the consequences.
Directly directing the task of helping people overcome the consequences of storm No. 13, Mr. Pham Quoc Vuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tinh Khe commune, expressed that storm No. 13 caused a lot of damage to Tinh Khe commune. Specifically, 2 people were injured; nearly 100 houses were destroyed by wind and waves, and their roofs were blown off; the entire coastal embankment built by the people in Vinh Binh and Vinh Hiep hamlets (An Vinh village) was eroded and completely damaged; 12 shrimp and crab ponds were damaged by waves,...
“Immediately after storm No. 13 passed, we mobilized all police, border guards, militia, youth,... and local people to divide into two groups to go to the two most heavily damaged villages of the commune, An Ky and An Vinh, to support local people in recovery.
“Tinh Khe commune has a coastline of more than 10mm with about 1,000 households living along the coast. In the short term, we will support people in cleaning up, dismantling collapsed houses, re-roofing damaged roofs, cleaning the environment, etc. so that people can soon stabilize their lives. In the long term, we hope that the higher authorities will consider building a dike in the sea area of An Ky village to limit the impact of sea waves and high tides on the lives and property of the people here,” said Mr. Vuong.

In addition, big waves combined with high tides have also dragged a large amount of garbage ashore, causing traffic jams on many coastal roads in Tinh Khe commune. To facilitate people's travel, the People's Committee of the commune has coordinated with Quang Ngai Urban Environment Joint Stock Company to mobilize vehicles and human resources to clean up garbage along the roads.
According to Mr. Vuong, big waves and strong tides have "swept" a large amount of waste from the sea into residential areas and coastal roads in the commune. Therefore, in addition to helping people overcome damage to houses and trees, the local government must coordinate with functional units to clean up to ensure a living environment for the people here.
With practical and timely actions, the government and people of Tinh Khe commune have been making efforts to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 13 and soon stabilize their lives.
