The new rice celebration is held after the harvest to honor the rice grains given by the gods and pray for a bountiful harvest. The ceremony is recreated according to the customs of the Gie Trieng people with the following parts: keeping the rice spirit in the field, bringing the rice spirit to the hut and the new rice eating ceremony. The village elder offers offerings, reads prayers for the villagers' health, favorable weather and wind; and for the children to work hard and preserve the good traditions of their ancestors. After the ceremony is the festival with activities of drinking rice wine, playing gongs and drums, expressing wishes for a new year of warmth and prosperity.

The New Rice Festival is a unique traditional agricultural ritual of the Gie Trieng people in the West of Quang Ngai province, demonstrating the harmony between people and people, between people and nature. The restoration of the festival contributes to raising awareness, preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.
