General Secretary To Lam meets with President of the British House of Lords John Mcfall

Meeting with General Secretary To Lam, the President of the British House of Lords affirmed that the British House of Lords continues to support the British Government in cooperating with Vietnam and sharing experience in law-making.

According to VNA Special Correspondent, on October 29 (local time), at Westminster Palace in London, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam had a meeting with President of the British House of Lords John Mcfall (Baron McFall of Alcluith) within the framework of his official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

British House of Lords President John McFall welcomed and expressed his appreciation for the official visit of General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the UK.

Congratulating Vietnam on its socio- economic development and foreign affairs achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and General Secretary To Lam himself, Mr. McFall affirmed that the UK always attaches importance to developing relations with Vietnam and is ready to cooperate closely to further deepen cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially education, training, defense, etc. The President of the British House of Lords also sent his regards and shared his thoughts on the current flood situation in Vietnam.

Expressing satisfaction with the increasingly good and substantive development of the cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies, which has significantly contributed to deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and the UK, Mr. Mcfall believed that General Secretary To Lam's visit would open a new phase of historic cooperation in bilateral relations in all fields, especially in the parliamentary cooperation channel; affirming that the British House of Lords will continue to support the British Government in cooperating with Vietnam and sharing experiences in law-making.

Mr. Mcfall sent his regards and best wishes to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and senior leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam.

At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the role of the British Parliament in the British political system, as well as the positive contributions of Mr. Mcfall and the British Parliamentary Leaders to the Vietnam-UK cooperation relationship in recent times and asked the British House of Lords to support expanding cooperation between the parliament, government and localities of the two countries in areas where the UK has strengths such as finance, science and technology, education and training, security and defense and climate change response.

General Secretary To Lam stressed that the two sides also need to step up the implementation of bilateral cooperation initiatives on education and training, especially within the framework of Chevening and Newton scholarship programs, university cooperation and vocational training; encourage British institutes and schools to expand branches and cooperate in training in Vietnam, contributing to building high-quality human resources to serve economic development and digital transformation in the new era.

The two leaders emphasized the important role of the two countries' parliaments in supervising the effective implementation of bilateral cooperation agreements.

The two sides agreed to maintain regular delegation exchanges, especially at high levels; promote cooperation between specialized committees of the two countries' National Assemblies; coordinate and share experiences in legislative activities, policy supervision, as well as academic exchanges, thereby promoting and enhancing cooperation on the parliamentary channel.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam respectfully conveyed the greetings and invitation to visit Vietnam from National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to British House of Lords President John Mcfall./.
