Summary of the Project to strengthen grassroots capacity to prepare for the Covid-19 pandemic

Along with Vinh Phuc and Khanh Hoa, Long An is one of three provinces nationwide where the Institute for Social Development Studies is implementing the "Project on Strengthening the capacity of grassroots level to prepare for and respond to the Covid-19 pandemic in Vietnam (SPR-COVID)" under the non-refundable aid from the Japan Social Development Fund entrusted to the World Bank in Vietnam, with the aim of strengthening the capacity of the community, including community leaders, health, related sectors and social organizations, vulnerable groups in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic as well as medical emergencies.

After nearly 3 years of Long An implementing the project in 9 communes in 3 districts: Ben Luc, Duc Hoa and Kien Tuong Town; from January 2022 to present, the provincial health sector has organized 5 training courses to improve inter-sectoral coordination capacity for health workers on infection control, maintaining basic health services and supporting referrals.

The project also guides the building of a community zalo network to disseminate information about Covid-19 and other epidemics to the majority of people, reaching a coverage rate of 68%. At the same time, it encourages organizations to participate in competitions and promote initiatives related to the work of preparing to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic and other epidemics in Vietnam in the period of 2021 - 2024.

On this occasion, representatives of the Project Management Board and the Provincial Department of Health awarded prizes to individuals who won the contest "How have I changed since participating in the SPR-COVID project?"
