The 12th General Assembly of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO) - 2025 opened on the afternoon of September 3 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City is the first city in Vietnam to host the TPO General Assembly. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said that this year's event is part of the Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo (ITE HCMC) 2025, which is expected to create momentum for economic development, trade, tourism and innovation.

According to Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc, as one of the founding cities and the only city in Vietnam to hold the role of a member of the TPO Executive Board, Ho Chi Minh City has actively contributed to the activities of this organization, constantly promoting links and cooperation in tourism development among members. From there, Ho Chi Minh City affirmed its central role in tourism development in the region.

Since July 1, Ho Chi Minh City has expanded its scale with the merger of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau , marking an important development step, orienting the construction of Ho Chi Minh City to become an international metropolis. With the theme "Shaping the future of tourism: Towards digital transformation and green transformation", the 2025 TPO General Assembly clearly identified digital transformation and green transformation as decisive factors to ensure the sustainable development of the tourism industry. These are two pillars, two important strategies that impact the structure and orientation of sustainable development of the global tourism industry towards the 17 sustainable development criteria of the United Nations.

TPO (Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities) was established in 2002 with the goal of becoming a center for promotion, information, and communication between tourist cities in the Asia-Pacific region. To date, TPO has 131 member cities and 56 tourism organizations and businesses from 17 countries and territories.

It is expected that the 12th General Assembly of the Organization for Promoting Tourism for Global Cities will have thematic seminars, high-level forums and bilateral conferences, focusing on solutions for applying digital technology and developing sustainable tourism, helping Ho Chi Minh City update trends and build appropriate tourism strategies.
