On May 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health issued an urgent document to medical examination and treatment facilities; district health departments; Drug, cosmetic and food testing centers; and pharmaceutical businesses regarding the review and reporting of counterfeit drugs, functional foods, and medical equipment.
The review aims to promptly detect and prevent counterfeit drugs, functional foods and medical devices from circulating on the market.
The Department of Health requests that medical examination and treatment facilities urgently review and check the list of drugs, functional foods and medical equipment being traded and used within the premises of medical examination and treatment facilities; ensure that products of unknown origin are not traded or used.
At the same time, review the process of purchasing drugs, functional foods and medical equipment at the unit in the past time.
In case of detecting any suspicious signs of abnormality in the product, the product is not allowed to circulate, or does not meet quality standards, immediately seal and do not use these products.
Pharmaceutical businesses need to urgently review and check the list of drugs, functional foods and medical equipment being sold at the unit.
In addition, business must be conducted within the scope of the license, and only drugs, functional foods, and medical equipment allowed to be circulated are allowed to be traded.
The Drug Testing Center has increased sampling and quality testing of drugs and functional foods circulating on the market.
The health department must notify pharmaceutical businesses, medical facilities and people to avoid trading or using fake drugs and functional foods.
In particular, strengthen inspection and supervision of business activities and advertising of medical products in the area, promptly detect violations.
Distributing counterfeit goods in pharmacies and hospitals nationwide
Previously, Hanoi City Police broke up a case, arrested 7 suspects, and seized over 100 tons of fake functional foods nationwide.
Accordingly, the Economic Police Department of Hanoi City Police has dismantled a group producing and trading counterfeit food, medical equipment, and medical supplies led by Pham Ngoc Tien and his wife Doan Thi Nguyet (37 years old, residing in Ha Dong district, Hanoi).
According to the police, Pham Ngoc Tien directed Luong Thi Yen (the company's accountant) to establish 17 companies, including 6 companies with the function of importing goods and 11 companies with the function of distributing goods domestically.
The subjects confessed to having produced and traded counterfeit goods since 2020, and sold them at pharmacies and hospitals across the country.
