More than just a professional competition for medical staff, the contest is also a vibrant communication campaign, contributing to spreading the message of environmental protection and promoting the proper sorting of medical waste. This is a small action but brings great value to public health.

Launched on August 25, 2025, the competition quickly received support from 33 healthcare units in the city. After the theoretical round on October 9, the organizing committee selected the 7 best teams to advance to the final round with the theme "Practical Action".
The atmosphere at the HCDC hall (366A Au Duong Lan, Chanh Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) became lively as the teams entered the two main competition sections: "Effective Solutions" and "Medical Waste Treatment and Classification".

In the first part, the teams drew lots and answered questions about real-life scenarios regarding waste management at healthcare facilities. In the second part, the teams transformed into "amateur actors" with short, witty skits, recreating the process of handling and sorting waste at their respective units. These simple yet meaningful stories elicited laughter and applause from the audience on numerous occasions.
A highlight of this year's competition was the creativity in communication. The teams not only demonstrated solid professional knowledge but also skillfully incorporated theatrical elements, creating a natural and widespread impact.

Dr. Dinh Thi Yen, representing the judging panel, commented: “Today, the judging panel had to use a ‘magnifying glass’ to find professional errors, but… we couldn’t find any. The participants’ knowledge is very solid. In particular, the skit was well-staged, the message was clear, and it was highly creative.”
Dr. Yen said she was most impressed with the skit "The Talking Trash Can," a work by the Hung Vuong Hospital team. "I even joked that in the future, every facility should have an 'AI trash can,' because if you throw the wrong type of waste in, the trash can will immediately release it," Dr. Yen shared.
The competing teams were also praised for their meticulous investment in props, bringing wheelchairs and medical equipment onto the stage for the most realistic demonstrations. The judges encouraged the units to utilize these skits as internal communication materials, helping healthcare workers and patients alike raise awareness of proper waste sorting.

In the auditorium, all contestants shared a spirit of giving their all and spreading their best. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Oanh from Hung Vuong Hospital shared: “Our team is called Hung Vuong Green, with the performance 'Talking Trash Can.' I want to send a message to everyone, from the elderly to young children, that we should sort waste properly, not only in the hospital but everywhere, for a green environment.”
Also from Hung Vuong Hospital, Ms. Huynh Thi Thuy Huong expressed her desire to win the top prize, but more importantly, to convey a humane message: "When everyone sorts waste at the source, the hospital will be safer and more humane. This is not just a regulation, but an action that spreads medical ethics."

Ms. Le Thi Kim Anh from Thu Duc Regional General Hospital couldn't hide her nervousness before the competition: "Initially, we were very worried, but when we entered the hall, we only had one spirit - determination to win! Our performance, 'The House of Waste,' has the slogan: Proper sorting, a clean hospital, and a green environment."
Ms. Kim Anh affirmed: "Proper waste sorting not only protects ourselves but also protects everyone around us. It's a small action, but if everyone does it, the hospital environment will change significantly."

After many exciting and lively rounds of competition, the Organizing Committee announced the final results: First Prize: Hung Vuong Hospital; Second Prize: Thu Duc Regional General Hospital; Third Prize: Nha Be General Hospital and Hoa Hung Regional Medical Center; Consolation Prizes: Oncology Hospital, Cu Chi Regional General Hospital and Le Van Thinh Hospital.
These awards not only recognize the efforts but also motivate units to continue maintaining the green communication model at healthcare facilities, helping to make waste sorting and disposal a natural habit in their daily work.
The "Joining Hands to Sort Waste - For a Green Environment" competition concluded with laughter, but its impact resonates strongly. For HCDC, this was not just a competition but also a training activity aimed at raising awareness of medical waste management, one of the key tasks of Ho Chi Minh City's health sector in the process of building a green, clean, and livable city.

Mr. Vu Xuan Dan, HCDC (Head of the Judging Panel), said: “The results from the competition will continue to spread to medical facilities, from central hospitals to wards and communes. HCDC hopes that each medical staff member will become a “green ambassador,” bringing the awareness of proper medical waste sorting into daily practice.”
The final round and awards ceremony not only honored the outstanding teams but also affirmed the commitment of Ho Chi Minh City's health sector to protecting the environment and public health.
