Ho Chi Minh City summarizes 50 years of literature and art

On the morning of October 18, at the Ho Chi Minh City Academy of Officials, the conference summarizing 50 years of Ho Chi Minh City literature and arts recalled the half-century journey of creativity, dedication and growth of the city's artists.

The conference was directed by the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; chaired by the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission of the City Party Committee, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City; coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and related departments and branches to organize.

Attending the conference were Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang; Party Central Committee member, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Quoc Phong; Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission Tran Thanh Lam; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong; along with leaders of central agencies, Ho Chi Minh City, veteran artists and representatives of the young creative generation.

Many achievements in investing in creating and promoting literary and artistic works of the city were mentioned at the conference.

Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, said that over the past 50 years, Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts have continuously developed, vividly reflecting the social life, people and the dynamic, affectionate and creative city's appearance. From the early years after reunification to the period of innovation and integration, the Ho Chi Minh City artists have always played a pioneering role in creativity, contributing to arousing the aspirations, beliefs and humanistic spirit of the city's people.

Excerpts from traditional arts such as reformed opera, traditional opera... were performed to serve delegates and the public.

"In particular, on the basis of the three regions of Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City before the merger, the City will continue to promote the dissemination of resolutions, directives, conclusions, and guiding documents of the Central Government and the City, concretizing the Party's viewpoints and policies on the development of literary and artistic activities," Mr. Duong Anh Duc emphasized.

Opinions of leaders and artists at the conference also recognized that literature and art are not only a "mirror" of reality but also an important spiritual resource, accompanying the construction of the city named after Uncle Ho, becoming a major center of economy, culture, education and creativity of the whole country.

The conference is one of the key activities in a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) and welcoming the success of the 1st Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, term 2025-2030.
