The shortage of blank forms and printing materials has been largely resolved, so Ho Chi Minh City is focusing its facilities and personnel on printing 150,000 outstanding driver's licenses to return to citizens in March.
Speaking with a VietNamNet reporter , Bui Hoa An, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, said that the shortage of materials for printing driver's licenses (ink, intermediate film, etc.) has been largely resolved. The city still has 150,000 driver's licenses in stock.
Based on the current situation, staff are working 12-hour overtime shifts each day to print approximately 4,000 driver's licenses. It is expected that by the end of March, the city will have mobilized sufficient facilities and personnel to print the required number of licenses to distribute to citizens.

According to a representative from the Department of Transport, the recent surge in people renewing their driver's licenses has caused overload at the application processing points. Therefore, relevant units have had to work overtime and extended hours to their maximum capacity to receive and process applications.
In the coming period, driver's license renewal centers will prioritize applications with less than 10 days remaining until expiration. They will also instruct people with longer-expired licenses to return later.
The Department advises people not to panic over misinformation and rush to renew their driver's licenses, causing overcrowding and long waits; at the same time, they should use the more convenient online application service.
When will the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport stop issuing and renewing driver's licenses?
Regarding the transfer of responsibilities from the Department to the police force, the Department of Transport said it is coordinating closely with relevant units. Currently, the Department has fully prepared all the necessary content related to the task of examining and issuing driver's licenses so that it can be handed over immediately upon request.
"All parties involved ensure that the process of issuing and renewing driver's licenses is not interrupted or affected for citizens and businesses. Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport will continue to accept applications for driver's license examinations and issuance until an official decision is made by the competent authorities," Mr. An emphasized.

In the past, the Vietnam Road Administration was responsible for managing driver's license examinations and issuance nationwide. Meanwhile, the Department of Transport was responsible for managing driver's license examinations and renewals within provinces and centrally-governed cities.
According to the plan, for cases of driver's license renewal at the Departments of Transport before February 19th, the transport sector will continue to process and issue licenses to citizens. For applications received from February 19th onwards, the police will handle them.
Ho Chi Minh City currently has 3 locations for receiving applications for issuing and renewing driver's licenses, including: 252 Ly Chinh Thang Street, Ward 9, District 3; 8 Nguyen Anh Thu Street, Trung My Tay Ward, District 12; and 111 Tan Son Nhi Street, Tan Son Nhi Ward, Tan Phu District (Tien Bo Vocational School of Transportation).
In Ho Chi Minh City, people are queuing up in long lines, and by 7 AM all the queue numbers had already been used up.
Ho Chi Minh City is facing a severe shortage of driver's license blanks due to an 80% increase in the number of people applying to renew their licenses.
Nearly 120,000 people failed the driving license test in Ho Chi Minh City.
