Tra Vinh's 100th Anniversary of Wax Coconut Festival and Cau Ke District's Vu Lan Festival Week 2024 This is a special event, held for the first time in Tra Vinh province, on a provincial scale, with the participation of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, aiming to honor and promote the brand and values of waxy coconut and affirm the efforts and determination to bring processed products from waxy coconut to world markets.
The festival also facilitates trade, connects supply and demand, and continues to preserve, maintain, and promote the Vu Lan Thang Hoi religious festival of the Chinese community in Cau Ke district, Tra Vinh province, which has been included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The festival also contributes to promoting socio-economic development, strengthening exchanges and linkages to develop diverse tourism products with localities inside and outside the province; and effectively promoting and attracting units, organizations, and individuals to invest in the development of the tourism industry in Tra Vinh province.
The organizers announced that the event will take place continuously for 7 days (from August 25th to August 31st) in Cau Ke district, featuring various cultural and sports activities, a trade fair, food stalls, and displays of delicious fruits, etc.
In particular, the event will feature 12 outstanding activities, including: the opening ceremony of the Tra Vinh 100th Anniversary Wax Coconut Festival at 8 PM on August 25th at Cau Ke District Square; a seminar on wax coconut trees, assessing the current situation and potential of local wax coconuts in Cau Ke; an exhibition of delicious specialty fruit products from Cau Ke district; a competition to prepare 100 delicious dishes from wax coconuts; and a seminar on "Cau Ke Tourism - Potential along the Hau River"...
The opening ceremony of the Vu Lan Festival Week will take place at 7 PM on August 27th at Cau Ke District Square.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Vinh province, Le Thanh Binh – Head of the Organizing Committee of the Tra Vinh 100th Anniversary of Wax Coconut Festival and the Vu Lan Thang Hoi Week in Cau Ke district in 2024, emphasized that this is a special event, the first of its kind to be held in Tra Vinh province, aiming to honor and promote the brand and unique values of Tra Vinh wax coconut and affirm the efforts and determination to bring processed products from wax coconut to the world market.
Mr. Binh also stated that the festival facilitates trade, connects supply and demand, and is linked to a seminar on potential investment attraction in agricultural processing and tourism, with the aim of introducing and promoting the province's potential, advantages, and investment attraction policies to domestic and foreign investors.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra Vinh province, the area planted with waxy coconut trees has developed rapidly since 2005; in 2005, the entire province had only 43 hectares, increasing to 170 hectares in 2017. In subsequent years, the area planted with waxy coconut trees continued to increase rapidly in Cau Ke, Tieu Can, Chau Thanh districts and Tra Vinh city, reaching over 1,277 hectares in the entire province by 2024.
