In a notice sent to partners, parents and donors before the new school year, Duong Van Thi High School (Tang Nhon Phu, Ho Chi Minh City) announced that it would not accept congratulatory flowers at the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year and would like to change them to scholarships for students in difficult circumstances.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc, Principal of Duong Van Thi High School, said that in order to implement the policy of saving, practicality and meaning, if parents, partners and donors plan to send flowers on the occasion of the opening ceremony, please switch to scholarships.
These scholarships will be awarded to students at the opening ceremony as a gift to encourage their spirit of overcoming difficulties, nurturing their dreams and adding motivation to study.
Every scholarship, big or small, is a sharing and love, contributing to spreading humanistic values, accompanying the school on the journey of nurturing knowledge, and giving wings to the future of beloved generations of students.
Similarly, Khai Minh Primary School (Ben Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City) has just sent an open letter to parents and partners, announcing that it will not accept flowers at the opening ceremony of the new school year 2025 - 2026.
Accordingly, the school's Board of Directors said: "In the 2025-2026 school year, the school will organize a concise and practical opening ceremony, and at the same time, will broadcast live the program celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of National Education, now the Ministry of Education and Training , with the whole country. To save money and practically welcome the new school year, the school respectfully informs parents and partners not to send flowers to congratulate the opening ceremony."
Instead, the Board of Directors of Khai Minh Primary School proposed that parents and students switch to supporting the scholarship fund so that the school can take care of disadvantaged children going to school.
In previous school years, many schools in Ho Chi Minh City also announced that they would not accept flowers for the opening ceremony and proposed to change them to health insurance cards, scholarships, notebooks, books, etc. to support poor students. With the message of "no student is left behind", these announcements received positive responses from parents, donors and the whole society.
