Video : Newly built school abandoned, teachers and students crowded in dilapidated classrooms Nghi An Secondary School Project, Campus 2, Phase 1, invested by the People's Committee of the former Nghi An Commune (now Vinh Phu Ward, Nghe An Province), with a total investment of nearly 25 billion VND, started in 2023 and completed in October 2024. In addition to the 3-storey building with more than 1,900m² of floor space, the project only has a gate, fence, garage and guard house.
To date, more than a year has passed, the new school consisting of a 3-storey building with 18 classrooms is still “closed”. The building is located in the middle of a field, the access road is narrow, degraded, and often stagnant. The new facility does not have a head office, functional rooms, playground, or practice ground - essential items for teaching according to the new general education program.
Fire protection system has not been installed, some points show signs of rust.
Although it was just completed over a year ago, the 3-storey building already shows signs of age, with many stains and cracks appearing, tiles falling off, and weeds growing everywhere...
Meanwhile, teachers and students of Nghi An Secondary School have to teach and learn in old, degraded classrooms. Ms. Le Viet Hong, Principal of Nghi An Secondary School, said that the school currently has more than 800 students, divided into 20 classes. After the storm, some rooms leaked, so the school had to arrange functional rooms and divide the reading room for students to study temporarily. The corrugated iron roof was blown off by the storm but could not be repaired due to lack of funds.
“This school was built a long time ago and is now seriously degraded. The new school was completed a long time ago but we cannot move there because there are not enough rooms and many things are missing. I heard that there will be a phase 2 project, but it is not clear when it will be built. The biggest wish of me and my students is that the new school will soon be completed to meet standards so that we can transfer the children to study there,” Ms. Hong shared.
Students crowded in the reading room and function room.
Mr. Nguyen The Than, Chairman of Vinh Phu Ward People's Committee said: "After receiving the school's recommendations, the ward held a meeting and is working on a temporary plan. Accordingly, in the coming time, a part of Nghi An Secondary School's students will be transferred to study at the new facility. As for phase 2, the locality will include it in the public investment plan for 2026 - 2030."
