Beware of the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), in the evening and night of November 13, in Ha Tinh area, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 30-60mm, some places over 100mm.

From the evening of November 13 to November 15, in the area from Thua Thien Hue to Phu Yen, there will be heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 150-300mm, some places will have over 500mm; in the areas of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Khanh Hoa, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain with common rainfall from 100-200mm, some places will have over 300mm.

From the evening of November 13 to November 15, in the East of the Central Highlands, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall from 50-100mm, and over 120mm in some places.

The Hydrometeorological Agency warns that from the night of November 15-17, in the area from Quang Binh to Phu Yen, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain with common rainfall from 60-120mm, in some places over 250mm.

The meteorological agency said it is necessary to guard against the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and flooding of rice fields and crops in low-lying areas; and to guard against heavy rain in a short period of time causing flooding in urban areas. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Cold air affects the Northwest and North Central regions

Earlier, also on the afternoon of November 13, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued a forecast bulletin for the Northeast Monsoon. Accordingly, this afternoon, cold air has affected most of the Northwest and North Central regions. At Bach Long Vy island station, there were strong Northeast winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 8; Hon Ngu island station had strong gusts of level 8; Con Co island station had strong Northeast winds of level 6.

On land, on the evening and night of November 13, cold air continues to affect other places in the Northwest and North Central regions, then will affect the Central Central region. Northeast wind inland is strong at level 3, coastal areas at level 4-5.

In the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An are cold, with some mountainous areas in the North experiencing severe cold. During this cold spell, the lowest temperature in the North is generally 14-17 degrees, in the mountainous areas of the North it is generally 11-14 degrees, in the high mountains it is below 10 degrees in some places; in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An it is generally 17-19 degrees.

At sea, in the North East Sea area (including the sea area of Hoang Sa archipelago), there are strong Northeast winds of level 7, sometimes level 8, gusting to level 9, waves 4-6m high, rough seas. In the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai and the North of the Central East Sea area, there are strong Northeast winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8; waves 3-5m high, in the Gulf of Tonkin, waves 2-3.5m high; rough seas.

From the evening of November 13 to November 17, the area from Ha Tinh to Phu Yen will have moderate rain, heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms; from November 14, heavy rain in Ha Tinh area will gradually decrease.

Thunderstorms can cause tornadoes and lightning. Thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind can affect agricultural production, cause trees to fall, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure.

“Beware of the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and flooding of rice and crop fields in low-lying areas; beware of heavy rain in a short period of time causing flooding in urban areas due to heavy rain. Strong winds and large waves at sea may affect the operation of ships and other activities. Low temperatures may affect crops and livestock,” the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned.
