These activities not only demonstrate the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", but also contribute to educating traditions, arousing patriotism and responsibility of the young generation of the capital.

Special thank you gift
According to Nguyen Tien Hung, Deputy Secretary in charge of the City Youth Union and Chairman of the Vietnam Student Association of Hanoi, 2025 marks many important historical events of the country. Therefore, since the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, the City Youth Union at all levels has organized many practical gratitude activities; in particular, organizing the Peak Week of "Repaying Gratitude", "Drinking Water, Remembering Its Source" in July, from July 20 to 27, 2025.
Activities include: Visiting and giving gifts to policy families and people with revolutionary contributions; implementing voluntary programs to examine and provide free medicine to policy beneficiaries in the locality; cleaning the environment, repairing and embellishing works honoring martyrs; mobilizing support and contributing working days to build new and repair gratitude houses, works serving the lives and activities of policy families...
A special highlight, touching the hearts of many people in the gratitude activities of the capital's youth, is the organization of presenting restored martyrs' photos to relatives and families with revolutionary contributions in the city. From 2024 to present, hundreds of martyrs' photos have been restored and presented to families.
Relatives of martyrs and people with revolutionary contributions received the restored portraits with respect and emotion for this special gift of gratitude. The photos have been stained by time, and through digital technology, they are clearly and realistically depicted, helping relatives of people with revolutionary contributions to "connect" with their loved ones...
As one of the families who received the restored martyr's photo from the Hanoi Youth Union, Mr. Luu Viet Huong (Dai Thanh commune), the younger brother of martyr Luu Viet Huong, emotionally shared: "My sister, martyr Luu Viet Huong, born in 1947, sacrificed in the resistance war against the US to save the country when she was 20 years old. I was extremely moved when I received the restored photo of my sister. This is boundless happiness for me and my family."

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Cong Giang (Ngoc Hoi commune), younger brother of martyr Nguyen Cong San, could not hide his emotion when receiving the restored portrait from the Hanoi Youth Union. He said that his brother's memorial photo had become old and faded over the years. Receiving the clearly restored portrait made his whole family happy and grateful for the attention of the city authorities.
Previously, on the occasion of April 30, in order to carry out the project "Restoring portraits of heroes and martyrs", the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Youth Union presented 50 portraits to relatives of martyrs in the city. On the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27) this year, the Hanoi Youth Union is expected to continue presenting 79 more portraits.
This meaningful activity is not only a bridge connecting the past with the present but also a vivid lesson about revolutionary tradition and the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", deeply penetrating the soul of every member and youth of the capital.
Affirming the responsibility of the young generation
This July, many gratitude activities were organized and integrated within the framework of the 2025 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign. In which, each Youth Union unit carried out at least 1 youth project "Repaying gratitude".

For example, on July 22, Dong Da Ward Youth Union coordinated with Youth Unions of the following units: Banking Academy, Vietnam Youth Academy, and Youth Union of Group 68 (Military Security Protection Department) to organize an environmental sanitation campaign and beautify the landscape at 4 martyr memorial houses in the ward.
Secretary of Dong Da Ward Youth Union Nguyen Mai Anh said: "The activity of taking care of and decorating the martyrs' cemetery is not only an opportunity for each young person to express gratitude but also a profound lesson in traditional education for the younger generation. In addition, the Ward Youth Union also proactively coordinates with accompanying units to develop a plan to visit and give gifts to wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and former youth volunteers in difficult circumstances; support the organization of free medical examination and health care activities for policy beneficiaries in the area...".

At the beginning of the week, the Youth Union of Bat Bat commune organized a "Meal of love and warmth" at the house of Vietnamese Heroic Mother Le Thi Lua (Thai Bat 2 village).
After cleaning the house and cooking, the union members and young people gathered around the dinner table with their mother, listening to stories about the resistance war of the army and people in the commune, and memories of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their blood and bones for the Fatherland.
Secretary of Bat Bat Commune Youth Union Duong Manh Tuong said that through this activity, the gratitude of union members and young people towards the generations of fathers and brothers who died for the independence and freedom of the nation is expressed; at the same time, it contributes to strengthening the education of revolutionary traditions, patriotism, national pride, and raising the responsibility of the younger generation in the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "Repaying gratitude".

According to Nguyen Tien Hung, Deputy Secretary in charge of the Hanoi Youth Union, not only in July, but throughout the year, the movements of "Repaying gratitude" and "Drinking water, remembering its source" have become regular activities of the capital's youth through many specific and meaningful programs and activities associated with emulation movements and revolutionary actions of the Youth Union, Association, and Pioneer organizations at all levels.
In the coming time, the Hanoi Youth Union will continue to digitize historical revolutionary relics, build a digital map of red addresses, digitize martyrs' cemeteries, images and related documents in the activity "Repaying gratitude". At the same time, the Youth Union will continue to restore photos of martyrs, present them to families of martyrs, families with meritorious services to the revolution, and families of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in the area.
Through the activities, the Hanoi Youth Union affirms the responsibility of the youth in inheriting and promoting the revolutionary tradition, expressing deep gratitude to the previous generation who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.
