Yesterday, July 28, candidates nationwide completed registration and adjustment of university admission wishes for 2025.
On average, each candidate registers 8.96 wishes.
Quick statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) on the evening of July 28 showed that this year, there were 1,160,033 candidates taking the high school graduation exam; the number of candidates registering for admission was 849,544; the number of wishes registering for university and college admission was 7,615,560. The ratio of candidates registering for admission to the number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam was 73.23%. The average number of wishes/candidate was 8.96.
The Ministry of Education and Training said the system was operating stably, and as of the evening of July 28, some candidates had still submitted their registration information close to the end of the admission period, so the system was continuing to process it. The number of candidates registering for admission in 2025 increased by 115,892 compared to last year due to candidates registering for admission to vocational colleges (194 schools).
Professor Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Department of Higher Education - Ministry of Education and Training, informed that if each major has 4-5 combinations or many methods, the system of the Ministry of Education and Training will automatically select the combination/method with the highest score of the candidate for consideration. The admission of schools is independent and is only for reference to that school, registering wishes on the Admission System of the Ministry of Education and Training is the final step. If candidates register on the school's system but not on the admission portal of the Ministry of Education and Training, it is also meaningless. In case candidates have not registered any wishes on the school's system, they can still register on the system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

According to the plan, from today, July 29, candidates will pay the admission fee online until 5:00 p.m. on August 5. After that, the Ministry of Education and Training and universities will process the admission application (virtual filtering) from August 16 to 5:00 p.m. on August 20.
After receiving the benchmark scores, successful candidates must confirm their admission on the system no later than 5:30 p.m. on August 30. The Ministry of Education and Training requires schools not to organize admissions before August 22. Additional admission rounds will begin from September 1 until the end of the year.
The benchmark will decrease according to the test score spectrum.
Predicting this year's benchmark scores, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Tung, Vice Rector of Hanoi Medical University, predicted that for majors with benchmark scores above 28 in 2024, there will not be many changes this year, while from 27 to 28 points, the benchmark scores will decrease slightly, following the general trend of the score range just announced. Majors with benchmark scores of 26 or less will decrease more deeply.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Tung said that from 2024, Hanoi Medical University will start enrolling students in the psychology major. This is the only major that accepts students based on both groups C00 (literature, history, geography) and D01 (math, literature, English), in addition to the traditional group B00. In the first year of opening the major, the benchmark score for the C00 group reached 28.83 - among the highest in the entire school.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Head of Student Affairs and Communications Department - University of Natural Sciences - VNU Hanoi, informed that the average score of this year's high school graduation exam tends to decrease slightly, so the benchmark scores of some majors will change. Specifically, the admission combinations with math and English such as math - English - physics or math - literature - English are likely to decrease. Some majors may decrease by about 2 points, but most of them will decrease by 0.5 points compared to last year. The fluctuation of the benchmark score also depends on the level of competition and the number of candidates registering for each specific major.
According to Dr. Pham Quang Dung, Deputy Head of Training Department - University of Transport Technology, the benchmark scores for some majors may decrease by about 2 to 3 points. However, it will basically decrease slightly from 0.5 to 1.5 points compared to the benchmark scores in 2024.
The University of Foreign Languages - VNU Hanoi has predicted scores for majors in the range of 19 - 25 points. The majors of English and Chinese pedagogy have the highest scores of 23 - 25 points according to the high school graduation exam scores. The standard score according to the highest competency assessment test scores predicted by the school is 120 - 130 points and 24.75 - 26.5 points with the method of considering academic records.
Ho Chi Minh City: Registrations skyrocket
At the end of the 2025 university entrance exam registration, many universities in Ho Chi Minh City received a sharp increase in the number of candidates registered compared to the previous year. Typically, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU-HCM received nearly 20,000 candidates, an increase of about 16% compared to 2024; Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education had nearly 70,000 candidates registered, an increase of 75%. The University of Industry and Trade also had more than 100,000 candidates registered, nearly double compared to last year...
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, said that the number of candidates registering for schools increased sharply because this year, the admission methods were organized simultaneously (except for direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training), so candidates registered at many schools to increase their chances of being admitted.
