USD exchange rate today May 1, 2025 on the world market
The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 99.49 - up 0.31 points compared to April 30, 2025.

Gross domestic product (GDP) fell 0.3% in the quarter, hurt by a surge in imports as businesses tried to pre-empt tariffs that the Trump administration was planning to impose on most goods, according to the Commerce Department's initial estimate. Pre-tariff imports jumped 41.3% in the first three months of the year, the data showed. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a 0.3% increase. However, Goldman Sachs predicted a 0.8% decline, while JP Morgan predicted a 1.75% decline.
The first-quarter GDP decline followed a 2.4% increase in the fourth quarter.
Consumer spending, however, continued to grow, albeit at a moderate pace. Consumer spending on services – especially health care – rose 2.4% in the first quarter as households remained resilient.
“The important thing to realize is that a lot of the GDP decline was due to a big surge in imports, which depressed GDP growth,” said Oliver Pursche, senior vice president, advisor at Wealthspire Advisors in Westport, Connecticut. “That was probably due to tariff expectations. So if you normalize that, you get positive GDP growth for this quarter, but it certainly doesn’t bode well for the second quarter.”
Following the data, the dollar rose against the yen, trading 0.4% higher at 142.96 yen, while the euro fell 0.3% to $1.1351.
The greenback is on track for its biggest monthly decline against the yen since July 2024. On the other hand, the European common currency is on track for its biggest monthly gain since November 2022.
The pound fell 0.6% to $1.3332. In April alone, the pound rose 3.8%, its strongest performance against the dollar in 2 1/2 years.
