According to recent information from Berita Harian (Malaysia), naturalized striker Fergus Tierney will not join U22 Malaysia in the 33rd SEA Games because he is busy with his duties at Sabah Club.

Initially, Sabah FC planned to let Fergus Tierney play with U22 Malaysia against Laos, then return to the team to prepare for the National Cup final against Johor Darul Ta'zim on December 14. However, Sabah FC head coach Paul de Marigny later disagreed.

Fergus Tierney has not been able to join the U22 Malaysia team.

Sabah FC CEO Mohd Joh Wid said: “Our proposal was to let Tierney play one match to support the U22 team against Laos, then he would return to the club. However, the coach still wanted Tierney to stay with the team and focus on the final (FA Cup).

For this final, the coaching staff informed us that if Sabah reached the final, Tierney would not be able to play for the U22 team. I am not responsible for this because we have given the target to the head coach.

That's what he wants and this is the coach's commitment so I don't want to interfere with his decision. For us, the national team and the club are both important, but anyway, the coach has his own goals. We respect the head coach's decision."

Fergus Tierney was born in 2003 in Scotland and is a promising naturalized player of Malaysian football, having continuously played for the youth teams and the Malaysian national team in recent years.

U22 Malaysia faced many difficulties at SEA Games 33.

Talking about this loss, Coach Nafuzi Zain said: “During the preparation before the SEA Games, we practiced and were ready even without the best players. The coaching staff also determined that there would be players who would come to the training camp and then return, or vice versa, in the middle of the tournament, there would be players who would come to the training camp later.”

According to plan, U22 Malaysia will play their opening match against Laos on December 6 and then face Vietnam (December 11).
