On the afternoon of December 3, U22 Vietnam had a successful opening match in Group B of the 33rd SEA Games men's football tournament when they won 2-1 against U22 Laos. In this match, striker Nguyen Dinh Bac played very impressively when he scored a double to bring home 3 full points for the white team.

In the post-match press conference, coach Kim Sang-sik did not hesitate to praise his student: “First of all, I would like to congratulate Dinh Bac. He played excellently and scored a goal today. But besides that, Quoc Viet and Thanh Nhan still need to improve their finishing ability. We will also improve our weaknesses and take advantage of our strengths to prepare well for the match against Malaysia.”

In this match, U22 Vietnam encountered many difficulties against U22 Laos' tight play and could only win thanks to two individual moments of Dinh Bac.

Coach Kim Sang-sik added: “This is the first match in this year’s SEA Games. We were a little nervous. But fortunately, everything went smoothly. We were not in the best condition, and we did not play according to plan.

After the first half, I also saw the players' lack of concentration, so I reminded them to correct themselves immediately. In the second half, the players played according to plan. However, today we were also unlucky not to score many goals. I also regret that we only scored 2 goals.

I think today's result is the result of the players' efforts. I feel sorry for the goal conceded in the first half. However, today we won. The players will recover and continue to try to win the match against Malaysia."

Meanwhile, coach Ha Hyeok Jun was very proud of his players even though U22 Laos lost in the opening match against U22 Vietnam.

The Korean coach said: “I believe the players tried their best until the last minute. The result was not as expected but I am proud of my players. We need to focus on recovery and then consider the match against Malaysia.”

In the 60th minute of this match, Dinh Bac scored against U22 Laos but initially the goal was disallowed due to offside. However, after discussing with his colleagues, the main referee recognized the goal for U22 Vietnam.

Regarding this situation, the U22 Laos coach said: “We need to review it. Initially, the referee raised the flag for offside when he thought that the Vietnamese player was blocking our goalkeeper’s view. But then the referee changed his decision. Therefore, we need to review it.”

According to the schedule, on December 6, U22 Laos will play the next match in Group B of the men's football SEA Games 33 against U22 Malaysia. Meanwhile, U22 Vietnam will face U22 Malaysia on December 11.

Currently, U22 Vietnam is temporarily leading Group B of men's football SEA Games 33 after the first round of matches with 3 points and a goal difference of +1.
