Ukraine attacks Russian border area with many missiles

On May 11, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Russian air defense forces intercepted 37 Ukrainian missiles and suicide drones in the skies over Belgorod and two other regions of Russia.

“On the night of May 10, Kiev authorities launched attacks on Russian territory using the RM-70 Vampire multiple launch rocket system (made in the Czech Republic) and unmanned aerial vehicles. The Russian air defense forces on duty destroyed 21 missiles and nine unmanned aerial vehicles in the Belgorod region. Seven other unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed in the Kursk and Volgograd regions,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

On his Telegram channel, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that eight civilians were injured in Belgorod. The governor also informed about the damage to civilian property in the region.

Ukraine has stepped up missile and drone attacks on the Belgorod border region and surrounding areas in recent months, with Kiev forces and their mercenaries even launching several cross-border attacks in the region in March.

The Russian military resumed large-scale group attacks on military and energy infrastructure in Ukraine in March in response to these attacks. Earlier this week, the Russian military launched a ground operation in the Kharkiv region, where Ukrainian forces have carried out most of the attacks on Belgorode.

The purpose of the ongoing operation in Kharkiv is said to be to establish a safe zone inside Ukrainian territory.

In the Volchansk, Vesely, Glubokoe, Neskuchny and Krasny regions, four Ukrainian brigades and a border guard detachment came under heavy attacks by the Russian army.

In addition to controlling residential areas, the Russian military also carried out attacks on the equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to AVP, the Russian military destroyed a significant amount of military equipment, including the Czech-made RM-70 Vampire multiple rocket launcher system, the French-made Caesar self-propelled howitzer, the Bogdana self-propelled howitzer, the D-20 and D-30 howitzers, and two Buk missile launchers.
