This is the third historical work by director Victor Vu, after The Hero's Destiny and The Last Wife . If the previous two films leaned towards action and psychology, Detective Kien marks a challenging transition with detective-spiritual material with a strong folk and mystical color.
Victor Vu shared that this was the most stressful project ever, requiring high standards in every stage – from script, setting, production to post-production. However, he still persevered, with the desire to contribute to enriching the treasure trove of Vietnamese historical films with well-crafted works imbued with national identity.

Inspired by the original work Ho Oan Han , the film was shot in the northern mountainous provinces to highlight the majestic and wild beauty. The opening scenes were visually impressive, and also inspired the director to refine the script to better suit the mysterious atmosphere of the mountainous region.
A highlight of the film is the return of actress Dinh Ngoc Diep, accompanying her husband not only on screen but also as a producer. During the premiere, she emotionally shared about the incident that injured People's Artist My Uyen while filming a tense scene, but the female artist continued to complete her performance with admirable professionalism.
The film's music, composed by musician Phan Manh Quynh, contributes to creating a melancholy, haunting atmosphere - just as the director said: "One tells stories through images, one tells stories through music ."
Not focusing on revenue, Victor Vu said that what he values most is the emotions and impressions the film leaves in the hearts of the audience. If well received, Detective Kien 's journey may continue in the future.
Detective Kien: The Headless Case officially opens nationwide from the April 30–May 1 holiday, with early screenings on April 26 and 27.
