Vietnam and Japan continue to promote extensive defense cooperation.

During his working visit to Japan and co-chairing the first Vietnam - Japan Deputy Foreign Ministers' Dialogue (2+2), Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense , paid a courtesy visit to Japanese Defense Minister Koizumi Shinjiro.

The Japanese Minister of Defense highly appreciated Vietnam's role in promoting peace and cooperation in the region and the world. In the context of the good development of relations between the two countries, he was pleased to witness that Vietnam - Japan defense cooperation has been continuously promoted and achieved important progress.

Minister Koizumi Shinjiro deeply sympathizes with Vietnam for the great damage caused by storms and floods, hoping that Vietnam will soon overcome the consequences, restore activities and stabilize people's lives.

In the context of the good development of relations between the two countries, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien was pleased to witness that the Vietnam - Japan defense cooperation has been constantly promoted, achieving important progress. Senior leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, the army, and the defense forces of the two countries regularly visit each other and meet on the sidelines of multilateral forums; cooperation between the armies, services, human resource training, cyber security, overcoming the consequences of war, etc. are of interest to both sides, promoted, and practically implemented.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien highly appreciated the effective support of the Japanese Ministry of Defense for the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in capacity building support programs in areas such as underwater mine clearance, underwater medicine, air rescue, cyber security, overcoming war consequences, maritime security, etc. In addition, the fields of humanitarian assistance and overcoming war consequences are always considered important by both sides.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien wishes Minister Koizumi Shinjiro Continue to speak with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and relevant Japanese agencies to continue to promote cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in the field of overcoming war consequences, especially bomb and mine clearance projects, and support for equipment for dioxin detoxification...

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien said that in 2026, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will organize the third International Defense Exhibition and hopes to continue to receive support and participation from the Ministry of National Defense, the Self-Defense Forces, Japanese defense enterprises and especially the Minister himself.

On this occasion, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien respectfully conveyed the invitation of Minister, Senior General Phan Van Giang to Minister Koizumi Shinjiro. visit Vietnam at the right time.

Minister Koizumi Shinjiro expressed support and wished that both sides would actively promote deeper and more effective cooperation in traditional and new fields, where both sides have potential, strengths and needs, in which Japan is ready to cooperate in the defense industry with Vietnam; at the same time, said that he really wanted to visit Vietnam in the near future.

Previously, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien and Japanese Deputy Minister of Defense Kano Koji signed a Letter of Intent on training cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding on search and rescue. These are important documents, promoting extensive, substantive and effective cooperation in the defense relations between the two sides in the coming time./.
