After the merger, Vinh Long province will have a coastal corridor of more than 130km. With open space to the East, the province hopes to exploit the potential of sea tourism , forming a tourist route connecting inland gardens to the coast, creating diverse and unique products.
Fascinated with the blue sea
With its location as the gateway to the East Sea of Cu Lao Minh area, located between the Ham Luong and Co Chien rivers, Thanh Hai coastal commune with its beautiful natural scenery, fresh ecological environment, rich cultural traditions, historical relics and warm-hearted people... has a strange attraction, creating a beautiful impression in the hearts of visitors every time they come here.
Traveling nearly 160km, Ms. Phan Thi Kim Qui (in Cao Lanh ward, Dong Thap province) came to Con Bung (Thanh Hai commune) during the summer days. Ms. Kim Qui said that the sea water here is not clear blue, the sand is not white but has the unique characteristics of the alluvial sea. Especially on the way, she and her family can also admire the beauty of giant wind turbine pillars, towering against the blue sky.
Ms. Qui added that early morning, when fresh seafood is caught and brought ashore, is the ideal time for tourists to choose to buy shrimp, crab, clams, snails, etc. Then, just ask the coastal restaurants to process it on the spot at a reasonable price, and tourists will enjoy fresh, delicious seafood right next to the beach.
In addition to swimming and enjoying seafood, her family had the opportunity to visit Nam Hai Whale Temple - a place to worship two giant whale skeletons, a spiritual symbol of coastal people, to learn more about the unique cultural beliefs of the people here.
In addition, her family also visited the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea - "the bridgehead to receive weapons from the North to support the battlefield in the South" - a historical work honoring the brave soldiers who transported weapons by sea, making them more proud of the historical tradition of their ancestors.
Located about 12km from Con Bung, with the advantage of being close to the sea and lush mangrove forests, Gio Duoc Ecological Lagoon (in Thanh Thoi B Hamlet, Thanh Hai Commune) has been in operation since May 2023. This is not only an entertainment destination, but also a green tourism model that harmoniously combines nature conservation, community development and local cultural experiences.
Ms. Vo Thi Kim Thuy (Cao Lanh ward, Dong Thap province) shared that amidst the lush green space of the coastal mangrove forest, Gio Duoc ecological lagoon "invites" visitors with slender but challenging rope bridges. The ropes are stretched across, connecting each small wooden plank to create a path across the clear water, leading to the lush, eye-catching mangrove forest.
Walking slowly, feeling the shaking in each step but extremely enjoyable. For Ms. Thuy, this is not only a game of movement in the mangrove forest but also a way to connect with nature when sneaking in to enjoy the feeling of "slow living" under the green mangrove canopy.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Khoa - owner of Gio Duoc Ecological Pond, said that taking advantage of his family's existing mangrove forest, he started exploiting the "inherent property" that had been "abandoned" for a long time in Thanh Hai coastal area, creating a unique eco-tourism space.
The journey began with the simple desire to bring nature back to visitors so that they can touch, hear, and feel the mangrove trees in a quiet space, as well as create a place for visitors to immerse themselves in nature, relax under the mangrove canopy, and feel the peace and familiarity of the Western sea.
Nestled in Thoi Hoa 2 hamlet, Thoi Thuan coastal commune, Con Ba Tu homestay has become a unique coastal ecological destination, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists.
As a 3-star OCOP standard homestay by the end of 2024, this place stands out with its mangrove forest scenery, creating conditions for visitors to deeply connect with nature, live slowly, "heal", experience becoming a real coastal farmer, participate in rustic activities such as fishing, netting, picking clams, catching crabs, and casting nets.
Ms. Le Thi Kim Linh, owner of Con Ba Tu homestay, said that the homestay "treats guests" with the simplest things such as thatched roofs, wooden walls, simple ground floors and typical dishes of the coastal countryside; it is a peaceful, windy space amidst immense shrimp ponds and salt fields, contributing to spreading a green lifestyle, protecting the environment and preserving traditional indigenous cultural values of the people in the river region.
In addition to the space imbued with the Southern countryside, what makes visitors "fascinated" is that Linh and her husband consider themselves a family.
Ms. Linh said that Mr. Thao (Ms. Linh's husband) takes on the role of tour guide, leading guests to visit the mangrove forests, experience livelihoods... She is responsible for preparing country meals with fresh seafood and garden vegetables.
Simple meals with a strong hometown flavor are always the most intimate connection - where the host and guests sit at the table and chat regardless of distance. It is the warm and sincere welcome that makes many tourists consider this place as their "mother's house," helping them feel like they are "returning home" in the middle of a coastal area that is still very wild.
Building a "three-in-one" destination image
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province, Lam Huu Phuc, said that after the merger, Vinh Long's coastline of more than 130km opens up golden opportunities for tourism development, especially forming a tourist route connecting from inland gardens to the coast, creating unique products and diverse experiences for tourists.
Previously, Vinh Long was famous for garden tourism, river tourism, historical and cultural relics. With a long coastline, the province can supplement marine tourism products such as resort tourism (developing high-class coastal resorts); organizing activities such as windsurfing, paragliding, kayaking, fishing to develop marine sports tourism; along with that, exploring the mangrove ecosystem, alluvial flats, sand dunes, riverside islands flowing into the sea; learning about the life and culture of the local fishing community to develop marine cultural tourism...

According to Mr. Lam Huu Phuc, the combination of garden and sea will create a seamless, unique experience, attracting tourists to stay longer in Vinh Long, increasing revenue for the tourism industry.
Sea tourism will lead to the development of many other service industries such as accommodation, food and beverage, transportation, and handicrafts. This will create thousands of new jobs for local people, improve their lives, and contribute to the overall economic development of the province.
In addition, the new coastline will attract large domestic and foreign investors to the tourism sector, building modern tourism infrastructure for the locality. The province also has the motivation to upgrade the transportation system connecting garden and coastal tourist destinations, helping tourists travel more conveniently.
Along with that, the province focuses on developing sustainable tourism along with preserving the traditional cultural values of the garden areas, the Khmer ethnic minority areas and the marine ecosystem. Tourism projects can integrate environmental education programs, raising public awareness about protecting natural resources and cultural heritage.
Mr. Lam Huu Phuc shared that possessing both the advantages of garden areas, unique culture rich in Khmer ethnic identity and the sea, helps Vinh Long to be more different from neighboring provinces in the Mekong Delta.
The province can build its image as a "three-in-one" destination with a blend of the characteristics of river and garden areas, traditional Khmer culture and the beauty of the sea. This will help Vinh Long increase its competitiveness on the national and international tourism map.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province, in the first 6 months of 2025, the province welcomed over 5.1 million tourists, including more than 676,000 international visitors; the total revenue of the tourism industry was over 4,000 billion VND./.
