On October 9, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) launched a fundraising campaign among all its staff to support people in provinces and cities severely affected by natural disasters and floods in recent times.
Accordingly, each VNPT employee contributes at least one day's salary. It is expected that the total donation amount of about 15 billion VND will be transferred by the Group to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Ministry of Finance , and local authorities to directly support the victims.
VNPT leaders said this is not only a practical action demonstrating the spirit of "mutual love," but also a social responsibility, a cultural beauty that VNPT Group has cultivated over the past 80 years.
Previously, consecutive natural disasters, especially storms No. 10 and No. 11 and their aftermath, caused serious damage to many provinces and cities across the country. Prolonged heavy rains, flash floods and landslides swept away thousands of houses and destroyed many infrastructure works, including VNPT's communication systems in many localities.
According to statistics, due to the impact of storm No. 10, in the areas of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, at the peak time, nearly 1,000 radio stations lost contact, 800 fiber optic cables had problems, more than 280,000 fixed broadband subscribers lost connection. Currently, only about 80% have been restored. Meanwhile, in the provinces of Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang , due to the impact of floods and storm No. 11, at the peak time, about 300 radio stations lost contact, 50 fiber optic cables had problems, more than 70,000 fixed broadband subscribers were affected/lost connection. In addition, many network devices such as ONT, access switches, splitters and other technical accessories were damaged or flooded. Not only was there damage to infrastructure, more than 200 VNPT officers and employees in the affected areas also lost their homes and properties, and their lives faced many difficulties.

Despite heavy losses, thousands of VNPT technical staff remained at the storm center and flooded areas, working day and night to urgently fix problems and ensure smooth communication to serve the flood and storm prevention and control work of authorities at all levels, as well as the communication needs of people and businesses. VNPT Group has mobilized nearly 600 specialized personnel to heavily affected localities to directly participate in rescue and information restoration. Dozens of cranes, generators, more than 700 km of fiber optic cables, 3,500 km of subscriber lines, and thousands of terminal equipment and technical supplies have been mobilized from less affected areas to provide support.
Thanks to the continuous efforts of the VNPT team, up to now, the telecommunications network in the Central region has basically stabilized, ensuring communication services, contributing to helping people stabilize their lives soon. In some northern mountainous provinces such as Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, although still facing many difficulties due to complex terrain and traffic disruption, the VNPT team is still working hard every hour to deploy rescue and restore the network.
That effort is not only reflected in the speed of network recovery but also in the trust of the people and the government. During the storm and flood, the VinaPhone network was still assessed as stable, maintaining communication for millions of users./.
