VNVC signs strategic cooperation agreement with Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF)

(PLVN) - Through strategic cooperation with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), VNVC hopes to bring a potential cancer treatment vaccine with Russia's modern mRNA technology to Vietnam right from the early stage of clinical trials so that patients have the opportunity to access more of the world's leading modern solutions.

On the evening of May 10 (Vietnam time), in Moscow (Russia), under the witness of General Secretary To Lam and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Vietnam Vaccine Company (VNVC) and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in the field of scientific research and technology transfer for the production of vaccines and advanced biological drugs. The event took place within the framework of General Secretary To Lam's official visit to the Russian Federation from May 8 to 11, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia.

According to the cooperation agreement between RDIF and VNVC, the two sides will discuss to establish a foundation for deep cooperation on high technology in the field of Biomedicine, focusing on research, investment, technology transfer and trade of biological drugs and high-tech vaccines. In particular, VNVC's top expectation is to soon bring in a potential cancer treatment vaccine based on the leading modern mRNA technology that Russia has recently announced.

Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of Russia for Foreign Economic and Investment Affairs and General Director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said: “Russia and Vietnam have many conditions for cooperation in investment and technology transfer, especially in the field of biomedicine and healthcare. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam is one of the countries that has approved the use of Russia's Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine. The cooperation framework we announced today will play an important role in enhancing scientific exchanges and technology transfer between the two countries to develop pioneering healthcare products.”

This important cooperation between VNVC and the world's leading major partner continues to affirm the remarkable growth of Vietnamese healthcare on the world healthcare map, contributing to enhancing the country's position in the new era.


In the immediate future, this cooperation is considered a concrete action to realize the policy of Resolution 57 of the Politburo, signed by General Secretary To Lam on December 22, 2024, on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. Scientific cooperation and technology transfer activities between Vietnam and Russia are expected to open up great development opportunities for the fields of scientific research, high-tech vaccine production and advanced cancer treatments for Vietnam.

Appreciating the cooperative relationship with prestigious Russian agencies, Mr. Ngo Chi Dung - Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of VNVC Vaccine Company affirmed that this is an important milestone, opening up opportunities for Vietnam to access and test vaccines on the most advanced mRNA technology that Russia is promoting research and development. The two sides will discuss to open up opportunities for Vietnam to have early access to Russia's potential mRNA cancer vaccine, not only for clinical trials and product commercialization but also for production at the VNVC Vaccine and Biological Products Factory in Long An.

“In the context that Vietnam records hundreds of thousands of new cases and deaths from cancer each year, this important cooperation agreement will open up new opportunities for cancer treatment with the first vaccine in the country, contributing to cost savings and improving the quality of life for people,” Mr. Ngo Chi Dung emphasized.

In addition to this important cooperation document, VNVC also signed a cooperation agreement with the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology on scientific research cooperation and biotechnology development. Research topics will be implemented in the near future.

Also within the framework of cooperation announced between the two official representatives in the medical field of the two countries, VNVC also signed with the Russian pharmaceutical group Binnopharm, one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers in Russia.

Immediately after signing, VNVC will begin scientific exchange activities with scientists from many Russian research institutes and high-level hospitals to receive technology transfer for research, testing and production of vaccines using mRNA technology. In particular, research and implementation of vaccine production according to the model of "complete, closed cycle" in Vietnam, focusing on pharmaceutical products that are Binnopharm's strengths, along with other important Russian pharmaceutical products, focusing on the field of high-tech cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The cooperation agreement between VNVC and prestigious agencies and organizations in the field of health, investment, cooperation and technology transfer of Russia opens up opportunities for Vietnam to have early and comprehensive access to new research and inventions of Russia in the field of medicine and health care, helping Vietnamese people and countries in the region to soon have the opportunity to access new technology drugs and vaccines such as the potential cancer treatment vaccine using Russian mRNA technology.
