Accordingly, the centralized landfill of Dak Mil district (old) was built in 2011, with an area of nearly 3 hectares. Every year, the People's Committee of Dak Mil district allocates funds and organizes the collection and treatment of waste. However, because this is a natural landfill, it has been overloaded and polluted for many years.
According to the latest survey, the amount of garbage collected and gathered here every year is nearly 5,500 tons. Currently, the amount of garbage that still needs to be processed and buried here is nearly 2,500 tons, but the People's Committee of Duc Lap commune and the unit that collects and buries the garbage do not have the funds to do so.
According to the People's Committee of Duc Lap commune, from July 1, 2025, after implementing the two-level local government model, the above-mentioned work items were temporarily assigned to the People's Committee of Duc Lap commune to continue implementation. However, up to now, the funding source has not been handed over by the People's Committee of Lam Dong province. In addition, the landfill is located within the administrative boundaries of Thuan An commune, so the treatment of nearly 2,500 tons of waste remaining at the landfill has not been carried out.
In the immediate future, the People's Committee of Duc Lap commune has requested the collection unit to handle the landfill to ensure traffic safety and reduce environmental pollution. At the same time, it proposed the Lam Dong Department of Finance to advise and arrange funding to implement the work of collecting, gathering, and burying garbage according to regulations, contributing to ensuring environmental sanitation and traffic safety.
In the long term, the People's Committee of Duc Lap commune proposed that the People's Committee of Lam Dong province and relevant functional agencies soon allocate funds to upgrade and build a waste treatment plant to thoroughly handle the environmental pollution situation here.
Previously, as reported by VNA reporters on October 30, the environmental pollution situation at the landfill in Dak Mil district, Dak Nong province (old), now in Thuan An commune, Lam Dong province, continued to be alarming when the unit collected and gathered garbage in the traffic safety corridor area and on National Highway 14C.
The unit that collects, gathers, and buries waste here is a joint venture of Water Supply and Environmental Services Limited Liability Company (headquartered in Binh Phuoc ward, Dong Nai province) and Nghia Ha Construction Limited Liability Company (headquartered in Bac Gia Nghia ward, Lam Dong province).
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong, the Dak Mil landfill (old) is one of the 9 facilities causing serious environmental pollution in Lam Dong province. In the immediate future, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong has proposed temporary treatment measures such as: using chemicals, spraying biological waste, collecting waste... to limit environmental pollution and limit negative impacts on people's health. In the long term, Lam Dong province is also continuing to call for investment in waste treatment projects in accordance with approved planning.
