On the morning of May 7, the leaders of Hai Duong Province Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. inspected flood prevention preparations in Tu Ky District. This is the lowest area in Hai Duong Province with about 2,500 hectares of agricultural land at risk of flooding if heavy rain occurs (the entire district has about 7,400 hectares). In the photo: Workers are focused on repairing a burned pump motor at Lac Duc pumping station in Hung Dao Commune. In 2024, prolonged heavy rains due to the impact of storms No. 2 and No. 3 flooded more than 3,200 hectares of rice and crops of farmers in the district. Pumping stations for drainage and irrigation combined with full capacity still caused significant damage. Tu Ky District Irrigation Works Exploitation Enterprise is responsible for draining 15,530 hectares of Tu Ky, Gia Loc districts and part of Hai Duong City. Learning from last year's experience, this year, the unit has proactively taken the initiative in preventing flooding. From April to now, the enterprise has urged units to urgently maintain and repair the pumping system at 8 drainage pumping stations and 8 combined irrigation pumping stations, striving to complete before May 15. Workers replace bearings and repair motors at the Nguyen Giap pumping station. This pumping station is responsible for draining 1,100 hectares of production land in the three communes of Nguyen Giap, Quang Trung and Tien Dong of Tu Ky district. The Nguyen Giap pumping station's discharge gate has also been repaired, cleaned, and is ready for drainage. The trash screen system at the drainage pumping stations throughout the district has been painted with anti-rust paint and is ready for use. To improve flood control capacity, from 2024 to present, Tu Ky district has mobilized maximum resources to invest in renovating and upgrading a number of degraded pumping stations. Two drainage pumping stations in Tu Ky district, including Cu Loc in Minh Duc commune (capacity 25,000 m3/hour) and Dong Trang in Quang Phuc commune (capacity 12,500 m3), are being upgraded and are expected to be completed before May 31. Up to now, 177 canals with over 2.5 million m2 of water surface managed by the Tu Ky District Irrigation Works Exploitation Enterprise have basically had duckweed removed, the flow cleared, and are ready to serve flood control work. The leader of the Provincial Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. said that together with Tu Ky district, the Irrigation Works Exploitation Enterprises of the remaining districts, towns and cities in the province are also urgently preparing conditions to be ready to fight flooding. The whole province has basically completed the repair of 116 drainage pumps, sluice gates, valve systems, opening and closing machines, discharge tanks and dredging of 124 canals. From May 15 until the end of the rainy season, the company requires all district-level irrigation works exploitation enterprises to arrange crews to maintain 24/7 duty at the drainage pumping stations.GOING STRONG
