New car prices continuously decrease, Jimny buyers "lose" nearly 200 million VND after 1 year

(Dan Tri) - Suzuki Jimny has continuously had big promotions in recent months, thereby affecting the resale price of this car line in the used car market.

In February, Suzuki Vietnam increased promotions for the Jimny model, through a policy of supporting 50% of the registration fee equivalent to 40 million VND, and giving a "lucky money" of 20 million VND. With a total reduction of up to 60 million, the selling price of this car line was reduced from 789 million to 729 million VND.

In fact, this price has been applied at the dealer for the past few months. With the 2-tone exterior color option, users still have to pay an additional 10 million VND.

The continuous price reduction of new cars has caused the Suzuki Jimny to lose value in the used car market. According to the investigation of Dan Tri newspaper reporters, a Jimny registered in 2024, with about 10,000km on the clock, is being sold by a used car showroom in Ha Tinh for 750 million VND.

It is worth mentioning that when it was first launched in Vietnam in 2024, Suzuki Jimny was "inflated" by up to 50 million VND at many dealers. This situation lasted for nearly half a year and it was not until early August 2024 that this model was sold at the listed price.

Users who bought the Suzuki Jimny when it was first launched had to pay a total of about 940 million VND, after adding fees. If they wanted to resell it after 1 year of use, with the price of 750 million VND as above, the owner would "lose" up to 190 million VND; this amount of money is enough to buy a small electric car like the Wuling Mini EV (from 197 million VND).

However, the Suzuki Jimny's customer base is quite specific, as this product is positioned as a "fun car". Most of the Jimny's customers are people who prefer off-road style, or are looking for a small car with the potential to be "modified" and freely personalized.

Therefore, Suzuki Jimny rarely appears on the used car market, partly due to the low number of cars sold in Vietnam. According to statistics, a total of 437 Jimnys were sold in 2024.
