On October 25th, Mr. Tho Ba Re, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Son district ( Nghe An province ), stated that a large crack, hundreds of meters long, had appeared across the mountain in Xop Phe village, Muong Tip commune.
A crack over 100 meters long has appeared on the mountain in Xop Phe village.
Earlier, on the evening of October 22nd, residents of Xop Phe village were startled by a loud explosion emanating from the hillside next to Provincial Road 445.
Shortly afterward, residents inspected the area and discovered several cracks, each 10cm wide, about 40cm deep, and over 100m long, running through the foundations of their houses. They then reported the matter to the authorities.
Many houses have cracks.
Upon receiving the report, the authorities in Ky Son district went to the scene to inspect and assess it as a very serious incident with a potential risk of landslide.
Dozens of police officers , border guards, and militia members coordinated with local authorities to urgently relocate five households with 26 people living at the foot of the mountain.
Local authorities, the military, and the police are assisting residents with relocation.
According to Mr. Tho Ba Re, the mountain crack in Xop Phe village shows signs of widening and deepening, making it impossible for residents to return to their old homes.
The district has instructed Muong Tip commune to arrange for affected households to be integrated with other families, and in the future, they will review land in resettlement areas in the region to allocate new housing.
Previously, the People's Committee of Que Phong district (Nghe An province) also relocated four families to a safe place after discovering a crack on Pu Meo mountain in Nam Giai commune. On-site inspection revealed a crack approximately 100 meters long, with the widest point measuring about 40 cm and nearly 10 meters deep.
According to some locals, prolonged heavy rain may be the cause of the cracks in Mount Pù Mèo, posing a risk of landslides.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the cracks appearing on Mount Pù Mèo and developing plans to ensure the safety of lives and property for people living at the foot of the mountain.
