On the afternoon of September 8th, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company exported its second batch of AVAC ASF LIVE African Swine Fever vaccine, consisting of 340,000 doses, to the Philippines.
Dr. Nguyen Van Diep, General Director of AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company, shared that the Philippines has imported 460,000 doses of the vaccine and assessed its safety and effectiveness as very good. This time, the Philippines is importing an additional 340,000 doses, demonstrating their confidence in the AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine.
The company maintains regular contact with its partners in the Philippines, reporting and communicating directly with leaders of the Philippine Department of Agriculture regarding vaccine usage.
In the Philippines, the vaccine is still undergoing registration and monitoring by the Philippine Department of Agriculture, so its distribution is more restricted compared to Vietnam. Regulatory agencies in the Philippines have rated the vaccine very highly in terms of safety and effectiveness.
However, widespread use of vaccines in the Philippines remains limited due to their registration and oversight procedures. Besides the Philippines, AVAC is also targeting other markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, and several African countries. The company is currently registering in India, Malaysia, Nepal, Myanmar, and other countries.
In Vietnam, the AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine has also been widely used, with over 4 million doses supplied and receiving very positive feedback from large livestock farms.
The company currently has approximately 1.5 million doses in stock. Vietnam has a new variant of African swine fever (a hybrid between type 1 and type 2). The current vaccine only provides effective protection against type 2, not full protection against the hybrid variant.
However, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company is researching a new vaccine to combat this hybrid strain, expecting to have a product registered by 2026.
Vaccine development always lags behind viral mutations, but it remains the most effective tool for disease prevention currently available.
To suit small and medium-sized livestock farmers, in September 2025, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company will introduce a vaccine in a 5-dose/vial package, making it convenient, economical, and waste-free for small-scale farmers.
Professor Emeritus, Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong, President of the Vietnam Association of Veterinary Science and Technology, believes that this event demonstrates three important values: science and technology; socio- economic development ; and international cooperation.
Nguyen Thi Huong, a former business owner involved in the production and export of various vaccines, believes that the Philippines' second import demonstrates their verification and confidence in the African swine fever vaccine produced in Vietnam.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong, two important solutions are needed for safe livestock farming: biosecurity and vaccination. Large enterprises have more resources to implement biosecurity, while for small-scale farmers, vaccination is considered a key solution. When a disease outbreak occurs, farmers often resort to isolation and culling. This poses a risk to the livestock industry. For diseases for which there is no specific cure, having a vaccine is even more crucial.
