37 students entered the regional and international Olympic team

37 students were selected for the international and Asian Olympic teams, selected from 190 excellent students in the national excellent student exam.

According to the decision announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on April 5, the team for the International Math Olympiad consists of 6 students, Chemistry and Biology each 4 students. For the Physics and Informatics teams, the Ministry announced the list of 8 and 15 students respectively to compete in the Asia-Pacific region. The International Informatics Olympiad and International Physics Olympiad teams will be selected later.

These students come from three specialized schools under universities, including Natural Sciences, Pedagogical University, and Gifted High School; and 12 local high schools (Hanoi, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Dak Nong, Binh Dinh, Phu Tho).

Among them, one student is in grade 10, five are in grade 11, and the rest are in grade 12. The only student from a high school without a specialized class is Tran Tuan Anh, from Nguyen Thi Minh Khai school, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province.

On the local side, Binh Dinh and Dak Nong have students selected for the Ministry's national Informatics team for the first time. Quang Nam has students competing in the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICho) for the first time.

If calculated by school, the Natural Science major has the most students on the team with 10 students.

Previously, after the national excellent student exam ended, the Ministry summoned about 32-46 students with the highest scores in the Olympic subjects for training. The exam to select the team took place on March 26-28.

Regional and international Olympic competitions usually take place in July and August. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, these 37 students are exempted from the high school graduation exam and will be considered for direct admission to university.

Students who win gold medals at international Olympics are awarded 55 million VND, silver and bronze medals are 35 and 25 million VND respectively. The maximum reward for national prizes is 4 million VND, according to state policy.

In addition, the children received separate rewards from the locality.

At the regional and international levels, Quang Ninh is currently the highest. This province awards 700 million VND to students who win first prizes in international Olympic competitions. The second prize is 500 million VND, the third prize is 400 million VND, and the encouragement prize is 200 million VND. For regional competitions, the prize ranges from 100-500 million VND.

Two provinces and cities with a reward of 500 million VND for students who won first prize at the international competition are Hai Phong and Bac Ninh. Vinh Phuc ranked third with 400 million VND.

Since 2021, Vietnam has always been in the top 10 countries and territories in terms of achievements in regional and international Olympic competitions, with 100% of participating students winning prizes.

Last year, Vietnamese students won 12 gold medals, 16 silver medals, 13 bronze medals and 5 certificates of merit. The Chemistry team ranked 3rd out of 89, the Math team ranked 6th out of 112, and the Informatics team ranked 9th out of 89.

The Ministry of Education and Training assessed that in addition to the efforts of students and schools, this is also the result of the innovation of the education sector in selecting and training teams for regional and international Olympic competitions.
