The workshop was attended by Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh; leaders of departments and branches of Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh and Dong Nai provinces, along with experts and scientists ...
At the workshop, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh emphasized that the Southeast region has the highest density of freight transport, inter-provincial transport and waterway transport in the country, and is under great pressure from traffic emissions.
In Ho Chi Minh City, scientific analysis shows that diesel-powered vehicles are one of the main sources of PM2.5, NOx and SOx emissions – factors that directly affect public health and urban environmental quality.
The analysis of practical data, scientific evidence and international experience is a valuable reference source for Ho Chi Minh City in perfecting its air quality management policy.
On that basis, Ho Chi Minh City will focus on four key orientations. First, perfecting institutions and emission standards; reviewing and updating standards, strengthening vehicle monitoring, and improving environmental discipline in transportation activities.
Second, promote the application of clean technology and environmentally friendly fuels such as encouraging businesses to convert engines, equip exhaust gas treatment systems, apply clean fuels and emission reduction solutions that meet international standards.
Third, develop a green logistics ecosystem, restructure transport infrastructure, prioritize low-emission vehicles, optimize routes and management technology.
Fourth, mobilize social resources and regional cooperation to connect localities in the Southeast region to implement inter-regional emission control programs, while promoting the public-private partnership (PPP) model in environmental technology investment.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, informed that Ho Chi Minh City has implemented many programs to monitor and evaluate air quality and proposed specific solutions.
The city also increased administrative sanctions against acts of air pollution in the traffic sector.
In the coming time, the department, in its advisory role to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, will propose further solutions to help reduce air pollution.

At the workshop, many delegates said that to solve the pollution problem, it is important to correctly identify the cause and source of emissions to have appropriate solutions.
