According to a VNA reporter in Paris, the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) solemnly held on the morning of September 2 at Ba Dinh Square attracted great attention from the French media.

Many major newspapers and websites have published articles, photos and clips reporting on the parade, as well as reviewing the achievements Vietnam has made over the past eight decades.

The newspaper “Le Figaro” published a clip of the “eye-catching” parade at Ba Dinh Square, where revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.

According to the newspaper, the 80th anniversary of independence from French colonial rule was marked by “the largest military parade in history, praising the resilience in the face of challenges.”

The above newspaper and many other major French newspapers such as La Provence, L'Union... said that the parade with about 40,000 people started right after dawn, along with tanks, unmanned aerial vehicles, radar systems, missiles, artillery, helicopters and even fighter jets.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of this important celebration before hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom camped overnight on the packed streets, General Secretary To Lam emphasized: “Our nation has overcome countless difficulties and challenges; our country has transformed from a colony into an independent, unified nation, steadily moving towards modernity and deep integration; its position and prestige are increasingly affirmed in the international arena."

For Vietnam, which is expanding partnerships even with former enemies, the anniversary is first and foremost an opportunity to praise its own path, with growth of more than 7% in 2024, one of the fastest in the region, according to the reports.

Meanwhile, describing the parade as “magnificent”, “the largest in decades”, the website Entrevue.fr said that in Hanoi , tens of thousands of people wearing red shirts and waving national flags gathered on the streets of the capital in a “display of patriotism”, assessing that “this is not only an occasion to honor history but also an occasion to affirm the strength and autonomy of the country.”

The news network added that the parade showcased the country's most modern military equipment, such as Mi-171 helicopters, Sukhoï Su-30 fighters, as well as domestically produced drones.

At sea, Kilo-class submarines and frigates also joined the celebrations. Thousands of Vietnamese soldiers marched alongside military units from China, Russia and other countries, underscoring the international dimension of the event.

Entrevue.fr quoted General Secretary To Lam emphasizing: "We are determined and persistent in protecting the independence, freedom, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and every inch of sacred land of the Fatherland."

Also according to the website Entrevue.fr, in parallel with the parade and march to celebrate National Day, the Vietnamese Government also decided to give 100,000 VND/person to all people nationwide to celebrate Independence Day. In addition, it decided to pardon nearly 14,000 prisoners "to link the anniversary of independence with the message of social prosperity and national unity."

On the same day, Algeria's APS News Agency also reported on the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day.

APS described this as an unprecedented parade. Flags were flying, tens of thousands of people camped out despite the rain overnight to await the event, and above all, there was great pride.

The parade involved about 40,000 soldiers and civilians, along with tanks, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), radar systems, missiles and artillery.

APS recalls that on September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi capital, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, after leading a heroic revolution against French colonialism.

APS also reported that several countries have been invited to participate in the parade, including China, Russia, Laos and Cambodia./.
