Andre Onana was sent on loan to Türkiye's Trabzonspor by coach Ruben Amorim, after recruiting young goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper's omission from the Cameroon squad is a huge shock, as Onana had hoped to be part of the national team for the tournament in Morocco, which begins on December 21.

The squad announcement was made on the same day the Cameroon Football Federation sacked coach Marc Brys and immediately appointed David Pagou as his replacement.

According to insiders, Andre Onana was not left out for technical reasons. His strong personality has repeatedly angered the president of the country's Football Federation - former player Samuel Eto'o.

Andre Onana has now played 53 times for Cameroon. He recently started in the 0-1 loss to DR Congo in the 2026 World Cup African play-off round.

This season, apart from a single appearance for MU in the defeat to Grimsby in the Carabao Cup, Andre Onana has made 10 appearances for his new team Trabzonspor on loan and kept three clean sheets.

Moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2023 for a fee of £47.2 million, Onana had a difficult time at Old Trafford, often making elementary mistakes in goal.

At the start of the 2025/26 season, he lost his starting position to Altay Bayindir after a hamstring injury earlier in the summer.
