Lockdown Mode is an extreme protection mode not intended for the majority of iPhone users.
Specifically, iPhones have a hidden setting related to Lockdown Mode. Some people have discovered this setting and shared instructions on how to activate it for others. However, according to Apple, this is not recommended.
Lockdown Mode is not a feature for the average iPhone user, and in fact, the risks it poses may outweigh the benefits. Apple warns that it is "an extreme defense designed for a small number of users at risk of being targeted by sophisticated threats. The vast majority of iPhone owners will never be attacked in this way."
Similar to Lockdown Mode on the iPhone, Google also released Advanced Protection. Both are special modes created for groups of users such as politicians , social activists, journalists, lawyers, and others working in sensitive fields. These are user groups who are often targeted by sophisticated spyware.
The manufacturer warns that when Lockdown Mode is enabled, the iPhone will no longer function normally. Some apps, websites, and features will be severely restricted due to security requirements, and some experiences may even be lost. Message attachments will be removed, websites will display abnormally, some calls will be blocked, some photo albums will be inaccessible, wireless connectivity may be disabled (depending on the model), and certain accessories will no longer work.
Disconnecting wireless and peripheral devices, and deleting data, will make the device more secure, but unless the owner is working in extremely sensitive fields or facing a national-level attack, don't activate Lockdown Mode!
Users can adjust many different settings on their iPhone, just avoid touching the Lockdown Mode feature.
What should iPhone users in general do to protect their devices?
To keep personal information and devices safe, users should adhere to basic principles such as running the latest iOS version; installing updates as soon as possible; being cautious with installed applications; and not granting applications access beyond their core functions.
Minimize your use of public Wi-Fi, use a reputable VPN service when traveling, activate anti-theft measures and limit location tracking, set a complex PIN, and enable biometric authentication.
Users should also run Apple's Safety Check feature (located in Privacy Settings). This feature will display a list of who is sharing data with the device owner, which apps are accessing personal information, or which devices are linked to the account and have access to the phone. These measures will keep most users' devices safe without needing extreme solutions like Lockdown mode.
