Besides Joseph Schooling, Singapore swimming puts its faith in a family of three siblings including Quah Jing Wen, Quah Ting Wen and Quah Zheng Wen.

On May 6, Quah Zheng Wen defeated two Vietnamese swimmers, Mai Tran Tuan Anh and Cao Van Dung, to win the gold medal in the men's 200m backstroke event with a time of 55.22 seconds at the 32nd SEA Games.
This medal adds to the Quah sisters' record of 68 gold medals at the SEA Games. In the history of the games, no family has a more impressive record than the Quah sisters.
The Power of Singapore Swimming
Not only Zheng Wen, the other two family members, Quah Ting Wen and Quah Jing Wen, contributed to helping the Singapore swimming team win the gold medal in the women's 4x100m medley relay on May 6. They defeated four Vietnamese athletes, Pham Thi Van, Nguyen Thuy Hien, Le Quynh Nhu and Vo Thi My Tien. Jing Wen also brought home another gold medal in the women's 200m butterfly.

Of the three Quah sisters, Zheng Wen is the athlete with the most gold medals at the SEA Games (28), followed by Ting Wen (25) and Jing Wen (15). Ahead of the 32nd SEA Games, Straits Times believes that even without the legendary Schooling, the swimming team will still reap many impressive achievements in Cambodia.
Gary Tan, head coach of the Singapore swimming team, has set a target of winning at least 20 gold medals at this Games. The Quah family is the key force in helping Singapore swim to conquer the above mentioned milestone.
The Quahs' dominance in swimming is evident when the three sisters hold a total of 14 records at the SEA Games. At the Asian Games, all three Quah sisters won medals. The two sisters Ting Wen and Jing Wen have also faced each other many times and are considered Anh Vien's tough opponents.
Domestically, they are one of the most famous families in the Lion Island's sports scene. In the eyes of the Southeast Asian media, the trio are known as "medal hunters".

Historic gold medal
The Quahs' medals were of great significance as they helped the Singapore Sports Delegation reach the milestone of 1,000 gold medals in the history of the SEA Games, ranking 6th out of 11 countries, after Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Most of Singapore's gold medals at the SEA Games have come from swimming. Four of the five athletes with the most gold medals in SEA Games history are swimmers from Singapore (Joscelin Yeo, Patricia Chan, Tao Li and Schooling).
Before the 32nd SEA Games, Singaporean sports only had 995 gold medals. Athlete Noah Lim "opened the scoring" for the Lion Island with the 996th gold medal in Ju-jitsu. In addition to the three Quah sisters, another Singaporean swimmer also won a gold medal in the 100m freestyle (Jonathan Tan).
"When I was about to enter the press conference room, I told my teammates that if everything went according to plan, Singapore would win its 1,000th gold medal," Ting Wen shared. "I was very excited but also quite nervous. This would be a great honor for athletes like us."
The eldest sister, Ting Wen, feels happy to be able to pass on her passion to her two younger siblings. "Even though I am the eldest, I have learned a lot from them. It is about being brave and never being afraid of a competition. We feel sad together when someone fails and can celebrate together when someone succeeds."
Youngest member Jing Wen, who was once dubbed the "Singapore swimming prodigy", added: "As one of the youngest athletes in the team (22 years old - PV), I feel like I am continuing the legacy of the previous generation, who have done an excellent job by winning more than 1/3 of the 1,000 gold medals we have. That feeling is great and a bit stressful. But I also really enjoy competing for medals with them."
