Key weather updates for the night of December 1st and the day of December 2nd, 2023
This afternoon (December 1st), a cold front affected most of the Northwest and North Central regions of Vietnam. In the Gulf of Tonkin, strong northeast winds of level 6, gusting to level 7, were observed.
On the evening and night of December 1st, the cold air mass continued to affect other areas in the Northwest and North Central regions, then the Central Central region. Northeast winds inland were strong at level 2-3, and level 3-4 in coastal areas, with gusts up to level 6.

Northern Vietnam and North Central Vietnam will experience cold weather, with some mountainous areas in the North experiencing severe cold. During this cold spell, the lowest temperatures in Northern Vietnam and North Central Vietnam will generally range from 15-18 degrees Celsius, while mountainous areas in the North will generally experience temperatures of 12-15 degrees Celsius, and some high mountainous areas may see temperatures below 11 degrees Celsius.
From the afternoon of December 1st to the evening of December 3rd, Quang Tri and the area from Binh Dinh to Khanh Hoa experienced moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 70-150mm, and some areas exceeding 200mm. Thua Thien Hue to Quang Ngai experienced heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 100-300mm, and some areas exceeding 350mm. From the night of December 3rd, heavy rain in these areas gradually decreased.
Additionally, from the afternoon of December 1st to December 2nd, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh will experience moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 20-40mm, and exceeding 70mm in some areas. The eastern part of the Central Highlands will have showers and thunderstorms, with localized heavy rain, with rainfall amounts ranging from 10-30mm, and exceeding 50mm in some areas.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that from today until December 3rd, a flood is likely to occur on rivers from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa. During this flood, the peak water levels of rivers from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai will reach alarm levels 1-2, with some rivers exceeding alarm level 2. Rivers from Binh Dinh to Khanh Hoa will reach alarm level 1 and above alarm level 1.
There is a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, and localized flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas in provinces from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa.

In the Northwest region , there will be scattered rain. Light winds. Cold weather, with some areas experiencing severe cold. Lowest temperatures 15-18°C, with some areas below 14°C. Highest temperatures 19-22°C.
In the Northeast region, there will be scattered rain and light rain during the night and early morning, followed by rain in some areas. Northeast winds will be at level 2-3, level 3-4 in coastal areas, with gusts up to level 6. It will be cold, with some mountainous areas experiencing severe cold. The lowest temperature will be 15-18°C, 12-15°C in mountainous areas, and below 11°C in some high mountainous areas. The highest temperature will be 18-21°C, with some areas exceeding 21°C.
In Thanh Hoa - Thua Thien Hue, the northern part will experience scattered rain and light rain during the night and early morning. The southern part will have moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain and thunderstorms. Tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind are possible during thunderstorms. Winds will be from the north to northwest at level 2-3, level 3-4 in coastal areas, with gusts up to level 6. The northern part will be cold, while the southern part will be cool. The lowest temperatures in the north will be 17-20°C, and in the south 20-23°C. The highest temperatures will be 22-25°C.
From Da Nang to Binh Thuan , there will be moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain and thunderstorms in some areas. Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms at night, followed by sunny weather during the day. Northeast winds will be at level 2-3. During thunderstorms, be wary of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. The lowest temperature will be 23-26°C. The highest temperature will be 27-30°C in the North and 29-32°C in the South.
The Central Highlands will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms. The eastern part will have rain, showers and thunderstorms, with localized heavy rain. Northeast winds will be at level 2-3. Warnings are issued for tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. The lowest temperature will be 19-22°C. The highest temperature will be 27-30°C.
Southern Vietnam will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms in some areas, sunny during the day, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening of December 2nd. Northeast winds will be at level 2-3. Tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind are forecast during thunderstorms. The lowest temperature will be 24-27 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature will be 31-34 degrees Celsius.
