Before 2024, when the Central, Northwest or Mekong Delta regions suffered from natural disasters, trucks loaded with goods, life jackets, instant noodles, and warm blankets with license plate number 20 were always on the road. Without needing to make a big call, volunteer groups, women's associations, youth unions, businesses and Thai Nguyen people still quietly donated and shared in the spirit of "the rich help the poor".

Unexpectedly, at the end of 2024, Typhoon Yagi made Thai Nguyen the epicenter of floods. Dozens of communes were deeply flooded, many areas had power outages, and serious landslides. Typhoon Yagi 2024 caused thousands of billions of VND in damage to the northern provinces, of which Thai Nguyen was one of the most affected provinces.

For the first time in many years, the land that was used to sharing became a place where the whole country sent love. Relief convoys from Hue, Hanoi, Quang Nam, Binh Duong followed each other to Tra land to support.

A year later, in October 2025, storm No. 11 brought record rainfall to Thai Nguyen. 54/92 communes and wards in the province were flooded to a record level. Many areas were isolated and cut off, hundreds of thousands of households were severely affected.

“Don’t wait for the sky to clear before standing up”, right in the midst of danger, together with the government, Thai Nguyen people volunteered and proactively deployed to rescue their fellow countrymen from flood waters. Many people volunteered to cook relief meals, share bags of rice, boxes of noodles, and bunches of vegetables in times of danger. Just a few days later, all over Thai Nguyen streets, the sounds of excavators, cars, and shouts of people working together to clear mud and rebuild houses resounded.

Officers, police, army, militia ate and slept at the scene to help people clean their houses, clear the roads, and clear the sewers. Thai Nguyen people overcame the consequences with their own hands and with the help of nearly 40,000 officers, soldiers, armed forces and volunteers from many provinces and cities across the country.

The shipments of supplies filled with love from people across the country quickly arrived in Thai Nguyen to provide timely support, warming the hearts of many people. Thai Nguyen is extremely grateful for the support in the form of labor, supplies, goods and cash that local organizations and individuals have sent in many forms...

Floods in Central Vietnam - Thai Nguyen people on the move

10 days after the historic flood, on October 19, 2025, Hue provided Thai Nguyen with 1 billion VND to help people overcome the consequences of storm No. 11, helping them stabilize their lives soon. But just a week later, the ancient capital was again submerged in floodwaters. Hearing that Hue was flooded, the people of Tra temporarily put aside their unfinished work and headed to Hue and the Central region to rescue their compatriots, with the mindset that immediate rescue was more urgent than overcoming the consequences.

On the night of October 27, 2025, Mr. Dao Kim Cuong and 5 friends in the "Otofun Thai Nguyen Rapid Response" (PUN) team drove a truck carrying three motorboats, traveling hundreds of kilometers to Hue in the midst of heavy rain and floods. The sharing "Hue once supported Thai Nguyen after the storm, now Hue is in trouble, we cannot sit still" strongly aroused the national spirit, compatriotism, and core moral values of the Vietnamese people.

The images of the Thai Nguyen PUN team shared from the flood epicenter of Hue spread strongly on social networks, touching millions of people. That was the image at Cua Huu bridge (Phu Xuan ward, Hue city), the flood water was rushing in, making it impossible for motorboats to enter, Mr. Kim Cuong and the Thai Nguyen rescue team stretched ropes in the middle of the raging water, guided people to hold on to the ropes, step by step through the water, then carried the elderly and children through the flood.

That was the moment a mother and child in Hue city hugged each other tightly and clung to a small electric pole in the middle of the rushing water. They were rescued by Mr. Hoai Phuong and the PUN Thai Nguyen team and brought to safety on a boat...

Rescue teams from Thai Nguyen have been on their way to provide aid to Hue and the flooded provinces in the Central region. Having just experienced the flood, Thai Nguyen people have stayed up all night to bring boats, life jackets, and necessities to Hue, rescuing and saving victims with all their heart.

In storms and floods, human love is the light that guides the way. In times of trouble, people in flooded areas understand, share and support each other to overcome difficulties. Above all, courage and faith in human love and affection in storms and floods.

During the storms and floods, the “brand” of Thai Nguyen people continued to be positioned. The more difficult it was, the more the brand shone brightly. The whole country was for Thai Nguyen, and Thai Nguyen was also ready to go to places in need of support across the country. The Thai Nguyen brand was created by actions, ready to share when other places were in trouble, and make efforts to overcome difficulties when one’s own place suffered damage.

The names Kim Cuong, Dai Cuong, Hoai Phuong (Phuong Zen), Duc Thinh… have been followed and mentioned a lot from the flooded Central region in recent days with admiration, love and gratitude. The actions and bravery of those Thai Nguyen people are the most vivid proof of the two words “loyalty”, the value that makes up the identity of Thai Nguyen people past and present.
