Since the water level of the Perfume River rose on October 27, this is the third time the railway industry has stationed trains on the bridge over the Perfume River to increase the load capacity and avoid the risk of being swept away by the strong current.
Specifically, on October 27, to protect the Bach Ho bridge project, the railway industry used 19 trucks carrying rocks weighing about 700 tons to park on the bridge. After the water receded and the trains were pulled back, on October 29, the railway industry dispatched another train carrying rocks weighing more than 1,100 tons to increase the load and prevent the Bach Ho and Da Vien railway bridges from drifting due to rising floodwaters.
In the 2025 flood season, this is also the fourth time the railway industry has had to send trains to stop on the bridge to prevent floods from sweeping the bridge away. Previously, in early October, the railway industry sent a 300-ton train to hold the Thuong River bridge in Bac Giang .
“Sending trains to guard the bridge is an emergency solution, often applied during heavy rains and floods, helping to protect important works and ensure safety for the national railway line,” Vietnam Railways Corporation emphasized.
Due to the forecast of the Huong River water level continuing to rise, the railway industry has decided to temporarily suspend trains SE1/2 departing from Hanoi /Saigon station and SE19/20 departing from Hanoi/Da Nang station on November 3, 2025. In November, trains SE 9/10 departing from Hanoi/Saigon station will also temporarily stop operating.
The railway industry announced that if there are any changes, an SMS or Zalo message will be sent to the phone number registered when purchasing the ticket. Passengers with tickets for trains that have stopped running will be able to return their tickets free of charge at the railway station, within 30 days from the date of departure stated on the ticket.
