People's Army Newspaper receives Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal

On the morning of October 20, in Hanoi, the People's Army Newspaper held a ceremony to receive the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal and celebrate the 75th anniversary of its traditional day (October 20, 1950 - October 20, 2025).

The People's Army Newspaper received congratulatory flower baskets from Politburo members: General Secretary To Lam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission; President Luong Cuong; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense.

Attending the ceremony were Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense; representatives of the Central Propaganda Department, Vietnam Journalists Association, and representatives of a number of ministries, branches, central and local agencies; and representatives of agencies and units of the Army.

The speech presented by Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, stated: 75 years ago, along with the new maturity of our Army, to meet the requirements of propaganda tasks, the General Command decided to merge the two newspapers "National Defense Army" and "Guerrilla Army" into a unified newspaper of the Vietnamese National Army and Militia, publishing the first issue in the Resistance Capital: Khau Dieu Village, Dinh Bien Commune, Dinh Hoa District, Thai Nguyen Province (now Khau Dieu Village, Binh Yen Commune, Thai Nguyen Province) on October 20, 1950. The new newspaper of the armed forces was named by President Ho Chi Minh himself. He said: Our Army is the People's Army, the Army's newspaper is: "People's Army Newspaper".

Looking back at history more deeply, to have the two newspapers "National Defense Army" and "Guerrilla Army", on the afternoon of December 27, 1944, after establishing the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army for 5 days, after winning the first battle one day, in the deep forest of Tran Hung Dao (Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province), the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army published the newspaper "Sound of Guns" announcing the victory in the battles of Phai Khat and Na Ngan, at the same time directing the immediate tasks of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army, calling on the people to stand up against foreign invaders and support the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army.

Loyal to the revolution, growing up with the maturity of our Army, the "Sound of Guns" newspaper was developed with many names, each name is the most concise summary of the revolution's goals in the special context of history, those are the newspapers: "Liberation Army"; "Victory"; "Golden Star"; "National Defense Army" and "Guerrilla Army".

Over the past 75 years, many generations of cadres and reporters of the People's Army Newspaper have been loyal, devoted, and devoted to building the political and spiritual factors for soldiers and people in both wartime and peacetime. The nature of a newspaper of soldiers who fight and sacrifice for the country and the people is always present in the pen of each journalist with the spirit and courage to go to the end of the truth.

In recognition of the People's Army Newspaper's achievements, the Party and State awarded the Newspaper the Ho Chi Minh Medal; the Gold Star Medal; the Newspaper was twice awarded the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces and Hero of Labor along with many other noble awards. Along with the blood and bones of the Army and the people, the People's Army Newspaper had 9 journalists who fell on the battlefield, 2 individuals were honored as Heroes of the People's Armed Forces.

On this occasion, the People's Army Newspaper was awarded the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal for its outstanding contributions and achievements.

Praising and congratulating the glorious achievements of the People's Army Newspaper, in order to successfully complete its tasks in the new situation, Senior Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, requested the Party Committee, Editorial Board and all cadres, reporters, editors, employees and soldiers of the People's Army Newspaper to focus on implementing a number of contents, including continuing to strengthen leadership, direction, thoroughly grasp, concretize and effectively implement the resolutions, directives and conclusions of the Party, policies and laws of the State on press and media; promoting the revolutionary nature and glorious tradition of the Vietnam People's Army, the mettle and will of the soldiers holding the pen, the identity of the "People's Army" brand to arouse the potential, creativity, responsibility and love for the profession of the cadres, reporters and editors.
