In the strong digital transformation flow of the healthcare industry, E Hospital is making efforts to gradually apply artificial intelligence (AI) to medical examination, treatment and operational management activities, with the expectation of improving service quality, optimizing administrative procedures and enhancing the patient experience.
Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu spoke at the seminar. |
Although not yet a pioneer in AI application, E Hospital is making sustainable and substantial progress. The technological solutions being deployed are not only aimed at modernizing the work process, but also towards the long-term goal of building a smart hospital with patients at the center.
One of the outstanding applications is the chatbot system integrated on the hospital's website and mobile application. This tool allows patients to easily ask questions, look up information about examination schedules, administrative procedures or medical services without having to directly contact medical staff. This is an effective solution to save time, reduce pressure on the reception department, and at the same time improve patient satisfaction.
In addition, the hospital has also put into use smart kiosks integrated with AI in the reception area. This device helps patients look up information, learn about the medical examination and treatment process, thereby being more proactive in registering and moving around the hospital campus.
Notably, E Hospital is testing a voice-to-text application software to help doctors quickly enter data during medical examinations.
With this technology, doctors only need to read the content, the software will automatically convert it into text and fill in electronic records. This is especially useful for doctors who are not proficient in using computers, helping to significantly save data entry time and limit administrative errors.
However, the final decision to confirm and edit the content still belongs to the doctor, ensuring the accuracy and legality of the medical record. This is not only a tool to support operations, but also a solution to contribute to improving professional efficiency and improving the quality of treatment.
Recognizing the importance of AI in healthcare, on the afternoon of July 18, E Hospital affirmed its pioneering role in the journey of digital transformation of the healthcare sector by successfully co-organizing the Seminar program "Application of AI in healthcare at E Hospital".
This event, in collaboration with FPT University and Viettel Digital, not only attracted the participation of a large number of doctors and medical staff from Hospital E but also the presence of other major hospitals such as Duc Giang General Hospital, Lai Chau Medical Center, Phong Tho Medical Center, and Yen Lac Regional Medical Center, marking an important milestone in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical examination and treatment activities.
The program was flexibly organized in both live and online formats on the Z-Waka platform, attracting more than 500 participating accounts, demonstrating the deep interest of the healthcare industry in the potential of AI. This is a clear demonstration of the direction of innovation and service quality improvement of E Hospital, laying a solid foundation for the era of smart healthcare.
Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu, Director of E Hospital, emphasized the hospital's strategic vision in integrating AI at the event, affirming that the application of AI not only helps to free up a significant part of the administrative work for the medical staff, allowing them to focus more on their expertise, but also opens up breakthrough opportunities in scientific research, telemedicine and even complex treatment activities. This is especially important in the context of new regulations increasingly requiring stricter requirements on the quality of medical examination and treatment.
He emphasized that the application of AI not only helps in image diagnosis and treatment support, but also brings breakthroughs in hospital management, areas that are less noticed but are the backbone of the health system.
"Thanks to AI, processes such as bidding and equipment procurement, which are inherently complicated with thousands of documents, are now automated, standardized, saving time and reducing errors," the Director of Hospital E added.
With a strategic vision, E Hospital is not alone in this journey. Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice President of FPT University, brought two in-depth presentations on AI trends in global healthcare and the opportunity to transform Vietnamese healthcare.
He shared that FPT has gathered more than 1,000 technology engineers who are working day and night to develop AI platforms to serve public health. He envisioned a vision where people can test at home, measure SPO2, heart rate, sleep... using AI devices connected to wifi; where medical records are automatically updated and doctors can provide remote consultation with high accuracy thanks to a real-time medical data analysis system.
Although optimistic about the future, Mr. Tien still emphasized that AI cannot replace the conscience, emotions and sophistication of a doctor. But AI will be an extended hand, a silent assistant, a foundation for doctors to better perform their mission in a context of increasing pressure.
Also at the Seminar, Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Head of Application Management Department of Viettel Digital, presented a visual example, an X-ray film was just uploaded to the system, in just a few seconds, AI gave diagnostic suggestions based on millions of previously trained medical records.
However, he also frankly stated that AI cannot replace doctors. But AI can help doctors go further, faster, more accurately, and more effectively. Importantly, AI needs to be "fed" with accurate medical data from doctors themselves.
A typical example of this cooperation is the VEM.AI project "Application of artificial intelligence to support medical staff in medical examination and treatment" developed by FPT, which was introduced in detail at the Seminar.
Speaking more about the VEM.AI Project, Mr. Khanh said that VEM.AI was developed based on advanced large language models (LLMs), trained with real medical data from more than 10 departments at Hanoi E Hospital, with the advice of leading doctors. According to the evaluation report from E Hospital (2025), the system achieved an effectiveness of supporting actual medical examination and treatment of up to more than 90%.
VEM.AI is capable of supporting doctors in their daily medical examinations, helping to shorten the time it takes to process records, and improve the accuracy of diagnosis and prescription.
Notably, the software also helps to "free up" support staff at the clinic, reduce waiting time for patients and increase the work efficiency of the medical team. When test and imaging results are available, the system can suggest clinical conclusions and prescriptions, and at the same time build a personalized electronic medical record.
The “virtual” assistant integrated into the system acts as a “know-it-all doctor”, able to provide 24/7 consultation on many different specialties, but still under the supervision and final approval of the doctor in charge.
With the support of IT engineers and doctors from E Hospital, VEM.AI is not only the first step in the journey of applying artificial intelligence to healthcare, but also an important foundation towards a smart hospital model, putting the interests of patients first.
