The Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital (Hanoi) recently shared information about a scam perpetrated by some individuals at the hospital, leaving an ethnic minority woman in a desperate situation. The victim is Ms. HT Trang (41 years old, Tay ethnic minority, from Bac Kan province) who came to the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital with her daughter for a medical examination.
Ms. Trang suffers from heart disease and recently underwent mitral valve replacement surgery. Her health is weak, and prolonged menstrual bleeding for nearly 20 days has left her severely weakened due to anemia and elevated white blood cell count. Her family are farmers with unstable incomes, making all treatment costs a significant burden.
While waiting for her appointment, feeling tired and anxious, a stranger approached her, claiming to be "a relative of hers," and promised to help expedite the hospital admission process.
Trusting this person, Ms. Trang gave them 5 million dong – the meager amount she had with her, probably her entire savings for this hospital trip. After taking the money, the woman disappeared.
Realizing she had been scammed, Ms. Trang was devastated. She had lost her money, hadn't even been examined, and was already ill, not knowing how she would cope.
As soon as they learned of the situation, the outpatient department staff and social work staff proactively coordinated with the hospital's security team to gather information. Medical staff also joined forces to raise donations, providing the woman with nearly 8 million VND in support.
Initial examination revealed a history of heart disease, so the hospital arranged for an ambulance to take her to Hanoi Heart Hospital for further examination and consultation before transferring her to the National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital for safe admission.
At the gynecology department, social workers continued to meet directly with and encourage Ms. Trang and her child, while also assisting with hospital admission procedures. Free meals were provided on the same day, and paperwork for fee waivers was processed promptly to alleviate some of the financial burden.
The doctors then consulted and admitted her to the hospital that same day to treat uterine polyps, which were the cause of her prolonged menstrual bleeding and severe anemia.
The hospital also advises patients and their families to be extremely vigilant, only accepting information and guidance from official medical staff. Absolutely do not listen to strangers to avoid unnecessary losses in terms of money, health, and opportunities for timely treatment.
