The glorious history of an ancient land
The land of Binh Thuan has a history of formation very early in the feudal period. Before the 17th century, this place was called Panduranga. In the year of Dinh Suu - 1697, Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu conquered this land and established it as Binh Thuan prefecture (in just 2 years, it will be the 330th anniversary (1697-2027) of the establishment of Binh Thuan prefecture).
During the Nguyen Dynasty, Binh Thuan prefecture initially consisted of three districts: Hoa Da, Tuy Phong and An Phuoc. Under the Nguyen Dynasty, Binh Thuan became an important part of the expansion of territory to the South. During the Nguyen Dynasty, in 1832, King Minh Mang changed Binh Thuan prefecture to Binh Thuan province. The provincial capital was located in Phan Thiet citadel.
During the French colonial period (1887-1945), in 1887, French colonialists established a ruling regime in Vietnam. Binh Thuan province was dissolved and merged into Phan Thiet province.
In the early stages of French colonialism, Phan Thiet became an important administrative and economic center of French colonialism.
Not submitting to the harsh and brutal domination of the French colonial regime, resistance movements of the people of Binh Thuan soon arose in continuous and fierce struggles. Among them, there were many typical movements such as the Can Vuong movement, the Duy Tan movement...
After the August Revolution in 1945, Binh Thuan province was re-established. During the two resistance wars against France and the US, Binh Thuan was one of the typical localities, suffering many hardships, sacrifices, and losing a lot of human and material resources. During the resistance war against France, the army and people of Binh Thuan fought bravely, contributing to the victory of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, leading to the signing of the Geneva Accords. During the resistance war against the US, Binh Thuan was one of the key areas. The army and people of Binh Thuan steadfastly held on, fought, and contributed to the final victory of the Vietnamese people, unifying the country from April 30, 1975.
After 1975, Binh Thuan entered a period of economic and social construction and development. In which (period 1975-1986): Binh Thuan focused on overcoming the consequences of war, stabilizing people's lives and building infrastructure.
Since 1986, implementing the Party's renovation policy, Binh Thuan has achieved many important achievements in the fields of economy, culture and society. In particular, Binh Thuan tourism has developed strongly, becoming one of the province's key economic sectors.
